strongopenyon
Everything is the same. Offense, Defense, from Varsity, to JV, to Freshmen, to the Middle School teams. Terminoligy is the same. The middle school teams do not duplicate the varsity's offense at Lexington Catholic.
Covercorner
The middle school teams do not duplicate the varsity's offense at Lexington Catholic. They have the same base plays. The middle school coaches may add a wrinkle, but if they don't run the same offense, the head middle school coach may be out of a job for not doing what Coach Letton wants. CardinalsFan
I have to admit, I was shocked when I saw this game on the schedule. I will tell you what I am told. My Cards, apparently, have a HELLUVA freshman team this season. We are undefeated (2-0) after just beating Moeller last week, 13-12 who also, I'm told, have a phenomenal freshman squad. I wish I could go but I cant. I will get detailed observations from the game and post them when I can. -CardinalsFan

The middle school runs out of the I formation primarily. I saw them last week.
CentreRocks
All middle school students at the parochial schools in the Diocese of Lexington are eligible to participate on Lexington Catholics 6th, 7th, or 8th grade teams. Some of the parochial schools are small and would not be able to support a football team. Man. That's nice.
strongopenyon
The middle school runs out of the I formation primarily. I saw them last week. You are right! Catholics varsity does not run out of the I-formation. The middle school team has won something like 30 straight games with their power running style. They throw less than 10 passes a game, but have had lots of success. "Covercorner" needs to go to a game and see how different (yet ultra successful) the middle school offense is than the varsity at Lexington Catholic. bluegrassfootball
Trust me on this one that covercorner knows what he is talking about on this one. You are right it is a little different but not that much different than the varsity teams. They through in a little of there own stuff but it is still mostly the LC style of ball. CardinalsFan
Way to go! :scared: Let me tell you, this is a great win for Lex Cath. Again, my understanding was that this is one of Colerain's best Freshman teams in quite a while. We just finished beating Moeller 13-12 by it was a complete mismatch. Colerain dominated the game on both sides of the ball but just shot themselves in the foot with penalties. Congrats to LexCath on the win and good luck the rest of the season. -CardinalsFan
CardinalsFan
As a follow up, here is a great recap from a Colerain fan who was at the game: The Cards fell to Lexington tonight by a score of 26-21. The Cards let them have this one with sloppy play. Colerain should have won this game easy but penalties and turnovers killed them. The Cards took an early 14-3 lead but fumbles kept Lexington in the game. Late in the game it was 21-20 Colerain and it looked as if Lexington was about to put it away with a field goal, but the Colerain defender blocked it on a big play. Colerain tried to run the clock but were stopped after a few plays when Colerain fumbled. This set up Lexington in good position and they scored on a pass play. Lexington went for 2 and were denied. There was about a minute left and there was still hope. Tyler Williams took the KO to the Lexington 40 but the Colerain QB was intercepted on the next play, sealing the win. Some thoughts: -Lexington's kicker was real good. He can really kick for a freshman. -TYLER WILLIAMS IS A BEAST. There's no doubt he was player of the game, making huge plays on offense and defense. This kid will be huge for Colerain the next 3 years. -Colerain's FB looked pretty good. He was pretty big for a freshman and got 4-5 yards a carry in addition to some bigger ones. He just needs to hold on to the ball. -Colerain DLineman 69 is a monster. He needs to turn fat into muscle and he'll be great. Overall, Colerain looked good. I can't wait to see how they grow over the next few years, especially Williams.
