Well Conner does have alot of students, but I doubt 2000. Probably in the 1300 to 1500 range. This will not be Matneys first go around with the Cougars. He faced Conner a couple of times while at SC. Here's one that cant wait for the opening of the new turf at JC.

From the way Matney amde it out the other night, they were playing one of the biggest schools in the state of Kentucky.

 

This is not the exact quote, but it's pretty darn close, he mentioned their 2000 students throughout the broadcast, but this came in the last 10 minute sof the show:

"We're playing a school with 2000 kids, it doesn't matter to me, even if they had 3000 or 4000 we'd still take them on"

 

LOL all i could think about when I listened to him the other night is,,, "Man! There is no better motivator in the state of Kentucky. He not only knows how to make his team get pumped, but he gets the fans in on the same mindset as well."

 

As for the game:

 

I think JC will look considerably improved on the o-line against stiffer competition..I also think the defense will continue to shine.

There numbers are in that range. Johnson Central, until the new 6 Class system, was always the biggest 3A school or the smallest 4A school due to its enrollment #'s falling right at that borderline for classification. We now fit in nicely with the 5A classification so hopefully we are here to stay.

 

Coach Matney is a great motivator. The thing I like about him, other than being a great coach, is the fact that he likes to get the community involved. He always talks about the effect the community has on his team and how much he appreciates there support. Thats something, to my recollection, that JC has never had. He wants the communities support and lets them know that it is appreciated. Thats why you see JC packing out the stadium week in and week out 45 to 30 minutes before the ballgame.

That..and the fact he is the best salesman I have ever listened to HAHA... I swear I almost was ready to go watch JC vs. the Goliath from NKY this Friday... HAHA Matney is a genious when it comes to spinning games to make JC the underdog... I can't wait to hear the Coach Matney show before the Belfry game.. he'll be making it sound like it is Johnson Central vs. Indianapolis Colts...

 

The bottom line is if someone had to research how to turn a program around... and there was a Kentucky High School Football Dictionary... Coach Matney's face would be right next to it. What he has done at JC is something special, and definately something that the community has every right to be excited about... even if he does stretch the truth a bit to fill the bleachers HAHA

I know of twoPirate fans who will be at the Eagle's Nest for the JC vs. Lou. Central.. Belfry plays Pike Central that night :thumb:

Trying not to look to far down the road, but that should be a great game. I expect much more than 2 pirates in the Nest that night.

I believe it was actually Conners new coach who told coach Matney their enrollment was up to almost 1900 and that next season Conner would be split and another new nky school would begin . However since your getting technical we actually checked and found Conner to have the pitiful sum of slightly over 1600. Its a shame we cant pick up East Carter and Shelby Valley like Belfry did.

On the Coach Matney show this week, the ole' ball coach said about 4 different times in different variations that Conner has 2000 students.. just wondering if he was being accurate or doing his typical Matney " Us vs. The World"

Conner's enrollment during the 2006-07 school year was 1,659 in four grades, according to the KHSAA.

Actually Conner's enrollment this year is around 1800. I am hoping for a good game!

Just as a side note, anyone else like the picture of Shawn Grimm on the BluegrassPrep home page soaring above the SP player for the TD. Doing his best Reggie Bush impression. Looks pretty good if you ask me.

Conner is closer to 1700, but why quibble over 100 students - they dress just shy of 100 for varisty games. 2008-2009 year a new high school opens and Conner will go to approx 1200 students and Ryle will also lose 400 students so that all four schools in Boone County (Boone County HS, Ryle HS, Conner HS, and the new school/Cooper High School ) will all hopefully have 1000-1200 students per school. Cooper will field a football team next year from what we have been told. Redistricitng in Boone will be VERY interesting as it is announced over the next few months. The fights will be interesting.

 

Now to JC - leaving here at 2:00 pm for the drive down - any problem getting tickets if I get to the gate by 6:00?
