Pulaski County 62 Somerset 49

Featured Replies

I believe the outcome would have been the same. Muse and company was on a roll on offense. Coach Hines has his offense rolling but now needs to work on his D.

I don't think so. This team had as much, if not more, talent in 2005 when Somerset spanked them. The difference there was Somerset had a good senior-laden secondary.

2007 is different than 2005 both teams played well except for the D, but PC just had another gear.

I'm not discrediting Pulaski's offense at all. I'm just saying that if Somerset's secondary shuts down the 27 and 28 plays (7 hole and 8 hole to the outside), take 5 or 6 TDs off the board for Pulaski. I could say the same about Pulaski in regards to tackling in the 1-5 holes where Hughes got most of his yards. I think Somerset was more balanced on offense Friday and has a little more offensive balance overall, and if both teams were defensive juggernauts, or at the least just made tackles, Somerset would win handily. Pulaski was the better team Friday though, and we'll never know who would win when the defenses are 3 or 4 games improved.

If you would have scored 2 more touchdowns you would have won too. There is more to factor in than just because the secondary failed to step up to the challenge. Better luck next week right?

......a lot more than the secondary. But Somerset is not going to be as good as many think mostly because of the secondary. They are afraid to hit and lack speed. Better luck next week. Hopefully SW and Somerset get back on track and PC improves to 2-0 and we all improve our defenses!!!

Jumper2005 the secondary and defense are part of playing the game and last night(this morning) we just did not get it done. It got almost ridiculous seeing our guys go down practically every play in the second half with cramps. There were times we would have 2-3 guys down, I do not recall Pulaski having one player down with cramps.

Chris Muse is all-state potential before he graduates. Did he make a poor decision all night?? P.C. did not have a turnover either that I remember. Fans could tell before the game started which team was more intense and prepared to play. Were the Jumpers overconfident??

Kudos to our freshman bunch also from Andy. J.P. and Derrick showed they belong on the field with anyone.

Coach Cobb will have this team ready this Friday night and we will have another very good season. This is a tough game to lose to a county rival but we should have learned alot from this game.

I have to say shoulda, coulda, woulda. I am sure PC fans are saying if we tackled Hughes better, this game would have been a blow out. The teams played the way they played. Both teams played hard/ the best they could. I am sure Somerset's secondary will play better as the year wears on, as well PC's linebackers. To say if this would have happened or that would have happened is taking away from the effort that was given by the opponent. There is no way I can discredit Hughes or Hines or Muse like that. They played a heck of a game, and in my opinion, Hughes is the most important offensive player SHS has. I do agree that they need to get Coomer the ball more (BTW, he scored on a PC 10 man defense- not Coomers fault/take advantage of what they give ya). I feel they had a great team-as does PC- and both these teams will hang their hats on offense this year- which everyone knew was going to be the case even before the game was played.

I like to think of this game as two powerful offenses that overpowered two adequate defenses!

Hinderlight had an inteception off Muse

As I said earlier, PC was totally prepared for Somerset and I don't just mean in the play selection department. After watching the films PC saw the weakness of the secondary. Every run, except for one, and every Muse score bounced to the sidelines. Perfect execution of their gameplan. All of Hines' runs were done turning the corner. Special teams were excellent especially kick return.

Somerset didn't attack on D and let Hines & Muse set up their runs. The 3-4 D from Somerset needs to be tossed unless they start to bring the house and mix things up. Pulaski was fresher and ready to play.

The best play of the night however started at 3:00 PM. when SHS decided to spend seven hours pregame around the humidity and heat, while PC had their kids in the comfort of their air conditioned homes hydrating and relaxing until 7:30 to 8:00. Even the warmups had the Jumpers out early while PC had their skill players out without pads up until 12 minutes to kickoff. I don't think it was totally a conditioning issue, but a hydration and heat fatigue factor. IMHO!!

WOW! What a great game, a shootout!

Wow, coach Cobb actually had his kids seven hours in the heat before such a big game? Thats some pretty interesting information maroonmadness. Sounds pretty obvious then why Cole left the game cramping...

I think he's referring to Cobb having the kids down in the fieldhouse immediately after school up until the game. Sometimes kids get into things after school that they shouldn't. As far as I know, this has never been a problem for Somerset, because of Cobb's requirements. They need to completely renovate that fieldhouse. Even with the industrial sized fans they have down there, no air gets circulated. No conditioning/running prior to the big game vs. PC will kill you too.

... If all this is true, and Coach Cobb kept his Players from 3:00pm in unconditioned fieldhouse until gametime because Kids get into things after school is rediculous. What was he thinking? Those Kids should have been kicked- back in air conditioning and consuming lots of gator-aid for hydrating. If this was not done then I would not want my Kid under this type supervision. Luckily there was No heat stroke or exhaustion with all the cramps. This heat has been killer and to not take all sensible precautions would be very irresponsible and I would have to consider the decision making going on at Somerset. This is not the first, providing the above mentioned information is correct. I did not notice 1 SWHS player suffering from cramps. What does that tell you without me going into our procedures at SWHS...

One group that I don't think is getting enough praise is the PC reciving corps. Not a big night receiving, but I thought the difference in the game was the way they maintained their blocks in the secondary. As fast as Muse and Hines were it didn't take much of a block to give them a step, but I thought they did a nice job all night blocking the SHS secondary long enough to let them get a step. SHS secondary is getting hammered by everyone, well maybe they deserve some of it, but give credit where it is due. Nice job Pulaski and good luck the rest of the season.
