I'm going to disagree on this point, 3 PT. There has to be someone who is ultimately in charge and that has to be the SUP. I'm not saying he made the correct call on this one but I am saying he should have the final say.

Its no different than in the business world, right? Someone always has ultimate authority and sometimes has to make the call. Hopefully, in this case, he didn't make it in a vacuum.

Sort of. You would hope they consulted the people they hire to make athletic decisions when they make a decision about athletics. IMO, this doesn't look like a decision made by athletic administrators...

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion but as someone said and as I eluded to this is an athletic decision and the AD/Coaches should have made this decision. Nothing has been said up until this point w/practices so why step in now, because it is a game and the lights are on. Everyone wants to be in the lights when the show begins, if you know what I mean.

 

Unless things have changed over the yrs but this means the BHS staff will be bringing their kids in around 6:30am to begin preperation for the game, ie: loading equip, taping and whatever else needing to be done to travel.

 

Bottom line, IMO, as we all have ONE(several), this was a bad decision. I bet everyone else in the area that is going to play on Friday night gets their games in.

Here is my two cents. For the last several yrs dealing w/this heat index rule it is plain fact that by 7pm it starts cooling off to where you can practice in shld pads/helmets w/water breaks every 30 min. By 8pm it completely safe to be in full equipment. During the morning practice, in full pads, the team usually is done and off the field by 10:30-11:00 w/out any problems. By 11:30 there were several days where you wouldn't have been able to even go outside. Good pts made regarding the temp is rising as the day goes on and the temp drops later in the evening.

 

The game should have been changed to 8pm and if necessary start even later but guaranteed it would have been OK. Athletic decisions should be made by people involved w/athletics and not by people who make administrative decisions.

I was having this discussion with the guys at work, and they said that the news weather guys have been saying that although normally it cools down in the evening, that over the past few days it actually gets the hotest later in the day towards evening.

Supposedly it is cooler in the morning than it is in the early evening.

I live and work very close to the field. Outdoor temp was 103 on my way home, falling to a balmy 101 in certain spots. When I first got in the car it said 114!:laugh:

 

The forecasted high for Friday is 102, the forecasted high for Saruday is 92. Anybody still think it is a good idea to play on Friday? Just curious.
