I'm sorry, but if a pitcher is allowed to use a weapon, the baseball, and intentionally throw at the batter, I see no problem with the batter taking his bat out to defend himself.

To clarify, I have no problem with him charging either. I'd rather him not, but that's not a problem to me. However, taking a bat is ridiculous and makes him a lunatic, IMO.

Gentlemen, under NO circumstances, can we honestly condone a MLB batter, using a bat to charge at a pitcher or player. I'm no lawyer but I believe that would constitute a criminal act.

 

Which I know none of us Baseball fans, truly would approve or understand.

:thumb: If the batter felt that threatened he needs to go out there with just what the pitcher has--his fists. If not, he needs to let his pitcher take care of the situation.

I played baseball for 12 great years and I know the unwritten rules of baseball are that you pluck the guy if they pluck your guy etc. I can respect that although I think the pitcher should be ready to stroke if he does it. I think it's garbage that a pitcher plucks a guy after he hits a homerun off of him. I'm not saying this circumstance talking more like taking a 90 mile an hour fastball right between the shoulder blades. You can say what you want we haven't been there but if that's me I'm fired up! I'm not constituting charging with a bat but I am not in the norm that it's OK to pluck a guy with a 90 mile an hour fastball between the shoulder blades like a lot folks are OK with. What happens if you are off a foot and pluck him in the head? Can that not kill him? Is throwing a 90+ mile per hour baseball at somebody intentionally not a serious weapon that could cause major harm?

I also think batters are crazy if they don't knock the catcher down before they go to the mound. You know you are going to take a beating from behind by the toughest guy on the team if you don't suprise him first.

I really don't care much about the whole situation but it's fun playing devil's advocate on this one:)

Izzy Alcantara tried this a few years back with decent results. However, usually the catchers don't try to administer a beating but try to hold the batter back. If batters decided to regularly try and take the catchers out you would probably see a lot of batters get planted at home plate. As for the headhunting stuff that is inexcusable too, but most "message" pitches are delivered to the derriere and if a pitcher can't be that accurate they don't belong on the mound.

Name one time you've ever seen that--go on an research it I'll wait..........It doesn't happen. Not in real baseball. You should have learned that in the 12 years you played. If a catcher did that and let the pitcher hit the batter he'd have to worry about much more than someone getting beaned.
