Holding the batter up was a bad choice of words on my part. I should have said tackled the batter and then the batter got thumped. Think about it if you charge the mound and get tackled from behind then not only are you almost defensless vs the pitcher who is coming after you but you also have a whole infield that can get to you before a teammate can.

This has gotten way off track but my points on this whole thing from my eyes are:

1. I'm suprised this hasn't happened more to be honest. So many folks with short tempers now days that just snap. I'm not saying it's right but I'm suprised it hasn't happened more often.

2. I'm not in the norm that it's OK for a pitcher to plunk a batter and not face physical harm himself if he does it because the guy hit a HR off of him. In my eyes a 90+ mile an hour fastball up is really dangerous!

Gentlemen, under NO circumstances, can we honestly condone a MLB batter, using a bat to charge at a pitcher or player. I'm no lawyer but I believe that would constitute a criminal act.

 

Which I know none of us Baseball fans, truly would approve or understand.

:thumb: :thumb: Getting hit by pitches intentionally is a part of baseball and has been forever. Nothing new with that. "If" a batter wants to charge the mound then that is one thing, taking a bat and using it is completely another. No way should that be in baseball. I also feel that a fastball in the area of the head in unacceptable as well and should not be in baseball.

If you get hit, may not like it but part of the game. Under no circumstances, is the bat ever used as a weapon....

 

I dont agree with that statement at all...Yeah if you get hit on accident yeah that is part of the game. But with how alot of pitchers are throwing at batters now a days on purpose it definitely IS NOT PART OF THE GAME. You say that bat should not be used as a weapon, but when you throw a ball 90 plus mph at someone dont you think that baseball is being used as a weapon? A baseball especially coming as hard as it is, is definitely a very dangerous weapon as well. So I know if I was a batter and someone threw at me on purpose I would be very angry and would have some unkind words for them but wouldn't take a bat out there, but if it even came close to my head at all while they are throwing at me on purpose I probably would take a bat out there too MAYBE, I mean I wouldn't go for their head with the bat but I would definitely be looking to hurt them with it, because they used a weapon in that baseball to try to hurt me...

:thumb: If the batter felt that threatened he needs to go out there with just what the pitcher has--his fists. If not, he needs to let his pitcher take care of the situation.

 

Yeah so the pitcher gets to hit a guy on purpose with a 90 mph pitch first (which is being used as a weapon then in that situation if you hit someone on purpose) but the batter has to be fair after he gets hit with that weapon?

 

However I do kinda of like your idea, but I would just change it around a little bit. You say the batter should only use his fists, well then the pitcher should only use his as well and not him him with a 90 plus mph fastball first. If he wants to really get back at someone then just go up to the opposing team player and take a swing at him, because then this way it would be closer to a fair fight then getting to throw a 90 plus mph fastball at him first...

So if a pitcher hits the batter in the rear end it is then okay for the batter to take a bat out to the mound to pound the pitcher? These things are settled other ways in baseball--the batters know that. If they can't handle it they need to find another sport. If you think you got buzzed on purpose YOUR pitcher is supposed to take care of it--or one of your teammates might flip the shortstop on a double play but there is never a reason to take a bat to the mound PERIOD. How many times can you honestly say that you've seen a pitcher hit a batter in the head area on purpose? Very, very few--that isn't the way its done.
