Interestingly enough, I bought a copy of "Brain Droppings" by George Carlin the same day I picked up the Bill Maher book. Not great, not terrible. As is often the case, the books don't measure up to the stand-up.

Carlin isn't as good as he used to be, but he's still entertaining. In his prime, he was as funny and insightful as anyone.

I don't read for fun, I watch TV for fun. Right now reading "The Reagan Diaries".

I used to love him back in the day. Then he turned into a whiner/complainer and I just can't tolerate that out of people in "show business".

I actually like Carlin although I do cringe a bit when he gets on his anti-religion/anti-God kick.

 

I have even read a Michael Moore book titled "Downsize This". This was actually the first real taste I got of him and it wasn't a good one. The book should have been titled "An Author's Lies Regarding Corporate Personnel Issues".

 

I normally don't let a comedian's political beliefs influence whether or not I will watch him/her, at least to a point where the entertainer crosses the line from comedian to political activist. For example, I think the Colbert Report is hilarious and very entertaining even though it is left-leaning and tends to poke fun at the issues/leaders in which I believe. I also enjoy the 1/2 Hour News Hour on Fox News which is right-leaning.

Since we're sharing opinions, I don't watch him nor others of his ilk. He thinks he's funny. He's not funny. Jerry Lewis movies are funny. Lewis didn't need obscenity, rudeness and crudeness to make people laugh. There was a day when I thought humor like Maher's was funny (I was very immature then and thought potty humor was a hoot). Not any longer thank goodness. I'm either an old fogey in the eyes of some or a mature adult in the eyes of others.

Oh come on, I'm a Conservative and I love Carlin. Seen him live twice.

 

BTW, Maher is NOT a funny guy, just a sad little man that wishes he had a sense of humor like Carlin's.
