Loss of a family pet

Featured Replies

So sad to hear this, I have a doxie too and dread the day that something happens. Your family will be in thought a prayers. Search Google for "Rainbow Bridge", a friend of mine found it helpful during her loss. Sorry again.

This is way too topical for me, our Boxer (6 years old) has stage 3 Lymphoma and is down to his last couple of months (of quality life). My wife is a basket-case.

I hope your wife and kids (and of course you) can comfort each other with the fond memories of the last decade.

I can understand what you're going through. We had to put my dog down back in March. It was very very hard for my family. I spent the majority of that night crying about it, well after I stopped by my parents house to console a hysterical mother. After that I let myself cry.

I still miss my dog.

Out of habit, I put food out for Jade tonight as Provy's dish was outside. He just looked at me with sad eyes and sat down. Jade would always sneak food from his dish but he would never eat from hers. I realized what I had done, went and got his dish then moved the food into it. He took a couple of bites then wanted to go outside. He laid down on the front porch and has been there for the past hour. It is like he is waiting for her to come home. He comes in, searches the house, then wants to go back out and wait. I think he misses her as bad as we do. I didn't think that was possible.

I read the Rainbow Bridge. I appreciate the sentiment, but it just made me cry.

We lost our Weiner dog of 14 years about 6 months ago, I feel your pain. I just bought my mom another one, they are wonderful pets

MT, our thoughts are with you. It's always a very tough thing to lose a family pet. We found out last week that one of our cats (a beautiful chocolate-point Siamese that someone had dropped at our house several years ago) had untreatable cancer and I took my daughter with me to the vet to euthanize her. It's a hard thing to go through, but I firmly believe that if possible, the last thing your devoted family pet should see while going to sleep is your face while you're holding her/him.

RIP Jade, and RIP Mulan.

I had to lay my dog to rest on April 7 of this year. I have been through a lot in my lifetime, but this was the hardest so far. My dog had cancer and was suffering terribly. I had a specialist from the University Of Tennessee try and save her but she was too far gone for any treatment by the time she was diagnoised. I feel your pain and I'm so sorry for your loss. They are more than just a pet. They are family members. God Bless you and your family.
