July 24, 200719 yr Smoking is a right that should not be taken away, there should be some place to smoke, that is well ventalated.
July 24, 200719 yr All I know is that going to bars in both Lexington and St. Louis I love the Lexington no indoor smoking laws. However, I guess im biast because I don't smoke. I just hate indoors where you have to inhale smoke usually from my friends who do smoke. Im tolerant of people who smoke, heck I'd say a good 50% of my friends do but it can get annoying smelling like smoke every night after going to the bars.
July 24, 200719 yr So....driving while drinking is fine, but smoking in the bars is not? Maybe public drinking should be done away with as well. There is no reason why a smoking area should not be allowed at least outside. When PH has his surgeries, no one is going to tell me that I can not smoke outside. Our hospital has that same policy....even outside. I do it anyway and security knows it. I will not pay money and be so nervous just to be told to go to my car with the windows up to smoke. First of all, the car is usually far away and it is usually very late or very early in the morning where, people worse than me, are outside. I tried to follow the rules once, and for my effort, I was almost attacked by some drunk guy. Thankfully, security drove by at that time. There are worse "crimes" than smoking. I had a friend to die when we were 7 years old by some guy who claimed he was not drunk who had just left a bar. She only got to live for 7 years because of him. I have had two cousins killed....murdered...at different times by the drivers leaving the bar. Again, they claimed they only had a couple of drinks and they were "fine". I will go along with the non-smoking bans when there are non-drinking bans as well. I have never heard of driving while smoking kills, but have heard of driving while drinking kills. It seems many people who are against smoking....not all, but a lot....will have a drink at an eating establishment and get into their cars and drive. This tells me that the laws and rules don't apply to them and they are above the law.

July 24, 200719 yr It just might happen with cigarettes. It was proven the prohibition was a big mistake and the law was repealed. And...that is not what I am saying at all...what I am saying is simple. People can drink at home and stay at home.... Just like they are wanting smokers to do. I don't appreciate people driving even after that one drink....I have lost 3 too many people from that. Do not drive after drinking. Plus, I don't really like being on an airplain where I can not smoke, but, have to put up with people who are drunk and cussing and carrying on. I have my rights too, you know!
July 24, 200719 yr I agree in your car is the place I would vote for with the windows up.:ylsuper: Car pollution is worse for you to breathe in than someone smoking outside.
July 24, 200719 yr The Ban not only pertains to dining and bars but also Workplace. At my work they have built outside smoking areas. Which is great, but the two smoke rooms they had before still smell like a old hotel room, At my work, there wasn't specified, designated smoking areas, but everyone knew the smokers hung out there. These areas were away from the entrances. Now that they've been taken away, the stand on the sidewalks and you have to walk right through them. In a way the law is good, but in a way it isn't.
July 24, 200719 yr Car pollution is worse for you to breathe in than someone smoking outside. My point is if they are in their car with the windows up I do not have to smell it.

Now that they've been taken away, the stand on the sidewalks and you have to walk right through them. In a way the law is good, but in a way it isn't.When you walk by them make sure you carry a can of air freshener and spray it. My brother and I did this at a restaurant we were eating at. The smokers got angry and the smart people were laughing every time we sprayed. Both of us went through a half a can.
July 24, 200719 yr I don't think that is funny at all. In fact, I think that is really rude and could be harmful if you got the spray in their eyes. Why did you not just walk around them? I don't like the smell of alcohol, it brings back too many bad memories that I am not going to go into. I guess I should carry air freshner to restaurants with me so that I can spray it on the drinkers while I am trying to eat? As long as the people are in a smoking area or outside, they should be left alone. It is the people who run into the smokers on purpose that have the problem. We have friends with health problems and we will not smoke around them. They are mature enough, however, to leave us alone for us to smoke outside. We are courteous smokers and therefore, appreciate courteous non smokers. Still, I think that smoking and drinking maybe should be left at home. That way, all if fair and no body is bothered....but, then we would have to worry about hair spray, and body spray offending someone's senses...so, maybe we should just shut down all public places and that way everyone will be happy. Sounds silly, even to me, however, I have a sister in law that is against anything that has some kind of odor....so, we have to please everyone I guess.
July 24, 200719 yr Can you imagine kissing a smoker if you are not one? Could you imagine kissing a drinker if you are not one? We have good hygiene and people that get around us, including doctors are shocked that we smoke....my dentist is a hard core non smoker and was shocked when he found out we smoked, so, I guess it is all in how you take care of yourself.
