Welsh is a former MLB player, so he certainly understands the game. Grande, does a good job in my opinion and has been around, for a long time.

I think they miss a lot during the course of a game...

 

Growing up listening to Marty and Joe, on the radio....they could describe the game and make you feel, like you were present.

:ylsuper: :ylsuper: There will never be any better than Mary and Joe on Reds Radio, not on radio, t.v............anywhere. Imo the same goes for Cawood Ledford on college/ U.K. broadcast :thumb: . We have been spoiled by the best now we have to listen to the rest. I do still turn on te radio and listen to Marty quite often.

I've watched commentators, from Garagiola, Kubek, Michaels, McCarver and so on, but I enjoy those who add to the game, not try to explain how the game is played, but describe the action.

 

Too often, we listen to criticize. I'll take the commentators, who don't critique every move, play or decision and bring a laugh, on occasion.

I agree with this. Too often announcers talk too much, almost like they're explaining it to the audience because they are "too dumb" to understand it. (Especially Michaels and McCarver).

 

Grande and Welsh aren't great, but they provide a constant voice each night and make me feel like part of the game. I like their work!

Botch calls ...............Yes, Do not understand understand the game.........No, they definately understand the game just imo are not good broadcasters.

:thumb: Excellent point. When I read your post the first name I thought of was Joe Morgan. No doubt the guy knows baseball but I can not watch a game that he works. He describes everything except the game we are watching.

The guys you mentioned are hard to top except maybe McCarver.

I agree they do lose track of things but overall they do a good job.

If George and Chrissy do understand the game as you guys say, they do a poor job of communicating it.

IMO, they jump the gun too quickly on plays. They just blurt something out and, so not to look like they don't know what they're talking about, stick to their guns and try to explain it. Instead of watching the replay or changing their mind, they look clueless, whether they are or not.

I do agree with you on this point - especially with Welsh.

 

Sometimes you just have to say "hmm, looks like I was wrong on that one."

:thumb: This is what drives me crazy about the two of them. So often, they are wrong, but never correct themselves. Sometimes I wonder what game they're watching. You know they have a monitor in front of them showing them the replay.

When you throw someone else in the booth with Grande, he's so lost. He doesn't know what to say half the time (see my location

George is dealing with his ailing mother. And this guy is actually pretty good. I think he has done Indians baseball for while. Anybody thats watching the game, what do you think?
