Improvements to Kentucky High School Football

Are you talking about an NFL type of overtime where the first team to score wins? If so, I think you will have alot of people disagree with you.
Not at all. Play the OT period as regulation. Just as if it was another quarter. Time runs out. Game ends. If tied, play another OT period...:thumb:

I believe there are many more avid football fans to the contrary. I do not think we have had very many nausea games in most cases...:ylsuper:

1. Downsize to four or five classes. Six is just too many ... the product is too watered-down. Return to the interdistrict playoff matchups that we've had in the past.

2. Overtime ... adopt the college rule, which gives each team possession at the 25.

3. Keep the 11-week schedule and give teams the opportunity to play an 11th game. Some will opt to do so ... others will appreciate the week off.

4. Ask Trinity and St. Xavier to field two teams each (A-M, N-Z) in an effort to "level the playing field" ... ;)

I don't like the running clock. It takes away from playing time for the younger players.

Unfortunately, it's needed to keep some less than honorable coaches from running up horrendous scores.

Nope, definitely nausea here as well...no need for the extra quarter, but I wouldn't mind seeing the ball moved back.

My Referee friends tell me the same thing. I think it depends upon your position on the field...:thumb:

I agree. It does however, take away playing time for the younger players. I would say that concessions are also seeing a drop in sales during the running clock. The people who benefit the most from the rule are the officials. It shortens their time on the field and the pay remains the same.

Basketball is not the problem and I do not understand why everyone says or thinks that.

The problem is the first round of the playoffs and off week

I would love to see only 2 teams from a district advance to the post season. With some districts with only 4 teams in the district a team could go 0-10 (that happened in our area one year) and make the playoffs! Same for 5 team districts, if it were the right game that you won you could have 1 or 2 win season and go.

2 teams from district would work out well imo, when this system first started in was only the 1 - the district winner. Imo 2 teams qualifying would still give a pretty good team a chance at the playoffs and eliminate a team being rewarded for a losing season (as is the case in a lot of the #4 teams in a district).

I could also possibly see 3 teams from a district going and giving the regular season district winner a bye in the 1st round. #2 would play #3 out of a district with the winner playing #1. That would reward the regular season district winner more.

Having been on both sides of the Ohio River ... Biggest improvement to KY Football would be in fundamentals ... Blocking and Tackling...

Basketball in this state focuses on fundamentals at individual level .. kids know and accept that they must grow these skills themselves .. Ky kids likely have some of the best basketball fundamentals in the nation ...

Football in many areas has no real feeders. Russell does thru a fantastic JFL system. It's a major factor to the on going success. Kids focus at early age on fundamentals , so by high school they can focus on execution. Football is simple especially at high school level , blocking and tackling by kids who want to , size is not that big a factor ... Improving in these areas would raise the level of football in the enitre state ... You are only as strong as weakest link. Many schools in KY have major room to improve in these basics ... Look at Northern Ky ( Cincy area) schools , they are more like Ohio than the rest of the state .... North East Ky is kind of a mixture of schools with good feeders and those with weak ones ....

Allow kickoffs in the endzone to be returned.

If a FG is missed, the ball goes to the line of scrimmage, not the 20.

Start the season 1st Fri night in Sept.

Get rid of Bye week

Top 2 in each Dist. make playoffs.
