June 21, 200719 yr This brings the question. Is he a First Ballot Hall of Famer? It depends on who is in his class. If his class is loaded then, no. Otherwise yes. He deserves to be, he is one of the biggest reasons that people still watch baseball. Also 600 HR should be a lock, and if not 600 then 3 seasons of 60+ HR's should.
June 21, 200719 yr 8, 60Hr seasons, 3 have been Sammy. I don't think he will make it first ballot. Some voters will fail to vote for him because of alleged acts. Also interesting that he hit more HR's in Wrigley Field than the Babe hit in Yankee Stadium.

I know the implications of Sammy, but he has to be dispelling some of the thoughts about him this year. He's almost at the top of the AL in RBI isn't he? I love Sammy. Always have.
June 21, 200719 yr Unless someone can produce some proof that he actually did use performance inhancing drugs then he should be in on the first ballot. One of only 5 people with 600 Homeruns and over 1600 RBIs plus the fact that he and McGwire helped save baseball should be plenty.
June 21, 200719 yr Author ^I agree to an extent, but the corked bat incident was no accident IMO. That coupled with his apparent amnesia of the English language in front of Congress made him look pretty guilty.
June 21, 200719 yr When a MLB player, reaches a milestone of 600, it's a tremendous accomplishment. Has Sosa hurt his reputation, with the incident mentioned before....without question. During the HR race with McGwire, Sosa's energy and enthusiasm, helped make MLB fun to watch. He made a tremendous mistake, regarding his corked bat. As for the HOF, yes I think he makes it but the writers, will not put him in as a first-ballot, just my thoughts.

No, while I don't care that Sosa hit #600 last night, I don't think he'll be excluded from the Hall (and nor should he). Sammy should be a first ballot HOF'er.
