June 18, 200719 yr I’m trying to find a number I can call for assistance in ridding my yard of raccoons. I don’t really want to pay for a service because there are too many of them. The destructive little creatures are wreaking havoc, chewing through our garbage cans and creating a real mess. I want to do this humanely for my wife’s sake, so if anyone can help point me in the right direction my wife and I would greatly appreciate it. Otherwise, I’ll just have to shoot the little vermin. Chief Daly won't be too happy about the last resort remedy:D We have little visitors just about every night. My dog chased one last night, good thing she didn't catch it. Last week we were taking the cans out to the street. My wife starts to pick one up and then screams. Out of the cans hops a small raccoon, just sort of looks at us and saunters off into the woods. I started putting bungee straps across the tops of the lids. That when they started eating throught the cans. Unbelievable! I've been told if you trap them, you need to release them miles away as they find their way back. Let us know what you wind up doing. You having any deer issues?
June 18, 200719 yr I had deer issues yesterday. I had just been outside watering plants, went back in the house to change clothes to run to the store...and by the time I went back out (no more than 15 minutes) a little fawn (still had its spots!) jumped up from the ivy about 10 feet from my door! It ran into my garage. When I went in, I had to sort of chase it out. It ran into the field next door and then "mama" emerged from the woods (about 100 yds away) looking for it. Luckily, she found it pretty easily. I didn't want a mad mama coming after me! It just seemed strange to me that a mother would leave her fawn so close to my house. There is a hay field between my house and the woods.

June 18, 200719 yr Author Another thought...since you live near the woods, "getting rid" (however you do it) of one raccoon may just result in a new one taking it's place. Is there a way to make your place less appealing to raccoons? Can your trash go somewhere else, such as in a garage or closed/locked outbuilding? What else do they get into?Not really another place to put them unless I put them in my basement, I really don't want to do that.

When she gets home tell her that you humanely caught the vermin in live traps and turned them loose at a raccoon ranch, with all the garbage they can eat, and throw in that it has 77 virgin raccoons if you like.
