June 18, 200719 yr I’m trying to find a number I can call for assistance in ridding my yard of raccoons. I don’t really want to pay for a service because there are too many of them. The destructive little creatures are wreaking havoc, chewing through our garbage cans and creating a real mess. I want to do this humanely for my wife’s sake, so if anyone can help point me in the right direction my wife and I would greatly appreciate it. Otherwise, I’ll just have to shoot the little vermin.
June 18, 200719 yr If you ask around, there is someone in just about every small community that has the traps to set and take them off your hands. We did that when we had problems with possums, cats, and the neighbor's kids coming into our yard.

I'm guessing 1. nearby woods 2. somebody elses neighborhood 3. the mall.

Yes, but I live near woods and I can't afford to pay someone, they charge like $75 bucks a trip. I'm not made of money, God only knows how many of them there are. I thought I rememberd someone talking about a service that did it for them at no charge, I just can't remember who it was.

June 18, 200719 yr Another thought...since you live near the woods, "getting rid" (however you do it) of one raccoon may just result in a new one taking it's place. Is there a way to make your place less appealing to raccoons? Can your trash go somewhere else, such as in a garage or closed/locked outbuilding? What else do they get into?
