June 4, 200719 yr Mike (Lexington/KY): Why do you hate my beloved Wildcats so much? SportsNation Andy Katz: (4:17 PM ET ) I'd really like to address this question. It makes no sense to me why this perceptionis out there among some, and I underscore some, Kentucky fans. Reporting that Donovan didn't want to go to Kentucky doesn't mean that there is any ill will toward Kentucky. I was simply reporting what I was being told. The Kentucky-UMass story was a news story, not a slant against Kentucky. UMass was upset and made it known. That's it. I thought and said the Billy Gillispie hire was a home run. And I did say that Kentucky is one of the top jobs in the country but at the time Donovan was making his decision he had Florida at the top. This is a fluid situaiton and no one stays No. 1 for ever. So, there is no reason why Kentucky couldn't vault back to the top of the SEC. I have no issues with Kentucky and I expect that I will be there even more with Gillispie as head coach. So, please erase the word hate from the verancular when referring to me and Kentucky, It's simply not true. June 4, 200719 yr The fact that he has to address this question leads me to believe I'm not the only one who sees it... Yeah, you're right. He's just one of many involved in the insidious, broad-based anti-UK conspiracy.
June 4, 200719 yr Author Here is another comment from Katz: SportsNation Andy Katz: (4:45 PM ET ) Blake from Lexington wasn't too pleased with my top 10 list. I can't post his comment. But he wasn't pleased. I can say I had Kentucky at No. 11 as one of the top 10 programs going forward. If I had to do it today I'd probably change it and put the Wildcats into the top 10. But, it was just a poll. There's no reason to get so upset.
June 4, 200719 yr Yeah, you're right. He's just one of many involved in the insidious, broad-based anti-UK conspiracy. I'm not claiming a conspiracy. I've just noticed a trend in Katz's comments about UK. None tend to be positive.

June 4, 200719 yr I'm not claiming a conspiracy. I've just noticed a trend in Katz's comments about UK. None tend to be positive. My point is I hear UK fans complaining all the time about this announcer or that writer "doesn't like the 'Cats." Heck, I've even heard people go so far as to suggest whole networks (ESPN) have it in for Kentucky. My other point would be that a lot of UK fans need to get over their self-importance and this bunker mentality about the school they root for. Most people don't care one way or another.
June 4, 200719 yr Dear Mr Katz, Why not? I am sorry Cats fans but that is funny right there!

I'm a homer, I'll admit it. But there have been some times when I just have to scratch my head with some of the omissions Katz has made in regards to UK over the years. For example the list of Top 10 colleges with the brightest futures-- none of Katz's colleagues placed UK and lower than 4th, while Katz left them out completely. Now, he is entitled to his own opinion, but I really can't remember the last time I heard something positive out of his mouth about Kentucky. Out of all sports announcers, Katz is the only one I have a problem with. Do I want him to say good things about UK? Of course. Do I not want him to say bad things about UK? Of course. But I just hear a lot more negative out of his mouth than positive.
June 4, 200719 yr And like I said earlier, the fact that Katz wanted to address the question lends me to think a lot of people have called him on it.
June 4, 200719 yr And like I said earlier, the fact that Katz wanted to address the question lends me to think a lot of people have called him on it. Probably the same people who whine about Billy Packer, ignoring the fact that Packer is hyper-critical about EVERY team, not just UK.
