My religion doesn't see a conflict between evolution and religion. I spent 14 years in religious schools (eight years of grammar school, four years of high school and the first two years of college). I was taught about evolution in biology class by a priest. It isn't strange at all.

 

My Biology professor at Centre was a deacon and Lexington Ave. Baptist Church in Danville and he taught evolution in class. I think he may have even mentioned the term - 'creation through evolution' at some point.

The Bible is either all true or not. We cannot pick and choose what we want to believe. If we do that then what Christ did for us on the Cross was a waste. The previous mentioned deacon needs to search his heart and either stand up for his Creator or step aside from his church duties.

There's a difference between the word "true" as you feel it applies, and as my faith teaches.

 

You are saying that word for word, line for line, the words in the Bible are God's words.

 

My faith teaches me that the principles, ethics and morals are the Truth. The words are man's.

The deacon you chastise isn't teaching against his Christian faith. He's teaching against YOUR version of Christian beliefs. There are many denominations, and each has differences. Are you saying that if one does not believe exactly as you believe, although they practice Christianity, they are somehow not true to Christianity?

As I have said and you did not respond to, there are parts of the crucifixition and resurrection that is not included in all books. In your view, does that mean the crucifixition and resurrection can be doubted?

So you don't take the quote from Jesus literally. I think it is pretty black and white and unless you "interpret" it, it says Anyone who breaks one of the least to these commandments will be called least in the kingdom of heaven. There is no way to spin it. It is black and white (and red in the Bible I am using now).

Matthew 25 - the story of the sheep and the goats says you go to heaven b/c your treat the poor nicely. It says nothing of believing in Jesus as the Savior. Jesus is telling this story, so what does that mean . . . If you take it literally?

KJ, you happen to be a literalist in terms of the Bible. That is your desire. I happen to (as well as Trinity Alum, RockMom and others) be an interpretationalist -- believing that there is much to learn and follow, but not necessarily treating the Bible as a history book and moreso as a guide to Christian Living. Your close-minded views of our approach are a little hard to understand given the depths of your apparent Christian upbringing.

Then if you believe that then you must believe the whole Word. The Bible contains no errors. No religion can save you, only Jesus Christ.
