What do the Lexington 6A schools need to do...

Since Jerrell is the tailback I'm a little confused on the fullback trap in the tates creek game especially since Dunbar was running stretch.

Why don't you come to Hensley's office and tell him that, or have you all ready been there?

I've been there. I think in that situation, running Greene that many times in a row was not the best thing. He is the stud back, no question, but Creek and everyone in the stands knew where the ball was going. Run something of a fake off of him to someone else, either a run or a pass in that situation, and kick the field goal. I hear Nichols is really good. You can lose to the Kentucky School or the Deaf if that happens, just don't lose to Tates Creek.

Another thing. Hensley's a good guy, but this ain't East. The fans and Alumni are a bit more spoiled by the Meighan era. That's what he signed up for, the challenge, and he's gonna have to deal with the ups and downs. His quick success also spoiled the group with him also. That's probably what I like about him the most after talking with him. He's an extreme competitor and things should get better real soon if all the players take his attitude. A few adjustments from the 3A level and he's got it. Great personality that Hensley fella.

There's no problem with the run here. Besides, we have Tates Creek and the backs there carry the ball 40-60 times a game and all week in practice, sometimes even in school, the school bus, while doing homework, and in the bed. :thumb:

Haha! Almost sounds like the Evarts High School of Lexington, not to make fun of them or anything, but they're probably the most "run" orriented team in these parts.

Tates Creek is the most run oriented EVER.

The truth of the matter is , St X and Trinity are in a league of there own, if nothing else, by numbers alone. In addition, if a kid is a great athlete and wants to go to X or T and have the capacity to do so, then they do.. The Lex schools, like all the others, are restricted to geographic neighborhoods to get kids from... Trinity and X are great programs and I'm not taking anything away from them, but, when you have 5-600 more kids to choose from than most other 6a schools and have no geographic boundaries and a school that offers good academics and recruits itself, there's always going to be an advantage that will not be made up very often..

I would wonder what kind of program T and X would be considered if they had to play against the big schools in Ohio, on a yearly basis. My guess is that they would be mediocre to good, but not great, when compared to schools of equal size and advantages...

I disagree. With the resources available to the respective programs, and the numbers that they currently have. I think that a consistant upgrade in competition, would result in stronger programs for both schools. Both St X and Trinity have room to grow, especially talent wise, I think the existance of more competition, would create the neccesity to close that gap.

I personally think that T and X win most of their games of coaching and preparation. This isn't limited to the week of the opponent, but to offseason workouts and togetherness. I don't think the boundaries have all that much to do with it. Some of those kids that attend and live a great distance away from the school are Pebbles of former Rocks, Kittens of former Tigers. The aw of their state championships and what everyone says they are wins a high percentage of in-state games the saturday before.

The talent is here, and on the field. Some of the coaches here, in my opinion, have ego issues causing some kids not to want to play football at their respective high schools. Some here would rather have friends on staff or former big-name UK players than people who actually are football oriented and know what they are talking about Politics in programs also factor into the mix. Anyone can take from that what they want too, but numbers and titles don't lie. Preparation is the key in all games. That includes the summer before freshmen get to high school. Teams really don't develop any depth here. That's the Trinity separation.
Great post! Those Coaches whom have that ego problem will never have a good program. When someone blames the Kids and injurys for their inadequatcys then I look at the Source. Not all who coach are as good as they think they are(IMO).

I think that this is the most valid point. I have worked in all the public high schools and everyone is impressed with a player from uk being a coach, but in fact that is what he is a coach not a player any more. Some of the most famous coaches were not excellent players, it takes a special gift to coach just like it takes a gift to be able run faster, be tall and athletic. that has always been a pet peeve of mine.

On a positive note I think that Lafayette is on the right track, they play like a team, and that act like a family. In years to come I think that if they can keep their coach will be successful against L-ville

TRADITION. The 3 Louisville powerhouses expect to win every season. They know the difference between hot water and boiling water. They just seem to know how to get that extra degree, 212, from the athletes to get the steam generated to sustain the program throughout the season.

The Lexington schools have the talent. They have the coaches. They can not expect to get the quick fix or silver bullet to turn the program into a powerhouse overnight. I agree with the Guru 100%, they need to start playing talented schools from outside of Lexington and outside of Kentucky to get a taste of what they are going to face in the playoffs against Louisville schools. Flush out the weakness early in the season by playing quality opponents. Make adjustments and be ready for Louisville come late November. I think many of us BGPers would like to see Lexington represented in the finals. I think...

Get rid of the LexCath boycott and play them. The road to the state championship runs through X and Trinity. To beat the best you have to play the best. Get over it!!!

That has been over with for 2 years.

Dunbar just built a brand new 3,000 square foot weight room that they work out in three days week. I know because I'm there everyday and I drive 40 minutes to get there. No more of this stupid "work harder topics." Maybe at some of the other Lexington Schools but Dunbar better not be lumped into them.

Try doubling that, or at least adding two to it. Lifting 3 days a week isn't going to cut it.
