CovCath 20 Beechwood 9 (6 innings)

Featured Replies

They do have pitching but not consistant pitching w/the exception of Elliott in regards to walks. One day they will throw a remakable game and the next time out can not find the plate. They have super exceeded everyone's expectations this yr, IMO but next yr watch out for the Tigers to make a lot of noise, like another regional title. No one can say young and inexperieced w/next yrs team. They all got plenty of experience this yr so that excuse will no longer be valid.

If Beechwood thinks they have things wrapped up next year, they need to look down Dixie Highway at thier nearest HS neighbor in Park Hills. They may show thier heads again next year. I agree that Beechwood is going to be good, but there are other teams in the same situation.

Good analysis. DD must really be under your skin. Ryle, CovCath and Highlands are the only 3 teams with a chance to win 3 consecutive games IMHO. I would be shocked if anyone else won the region this year. Congrats to CovCath on winning the district.

How many did Bleser Throw for and how was Popham kicking the ball.

Good analysis. DD must really be under your skin.

I think I speak for the masses....

Just kidding DD. I did notice you quieted down a bit... did the wife (or the boy)catch you on BGPreps again and take away your priveleges....

We will miss DD next year when he is watching his boy playing at the next level. His HS team will miss the his boys leadership and enthousiasm for the game. I spoke to one of the HS coaches, and they are really going to miss this entire Senior class. A great group of kids. This is not to be taken negatively by the rest of the team. It's just that the seniors seem like they have been playing varsity out there for @ 6 years.

Hey bgpreppy you still haven't cleaned out your message box yet?

I guess Ryle has several 3-year starters, which is very unusual for them. A couple of the seniors that are doing well this year did not play much last year.

3PS,

As much as I hate to say this... because I know it makes DiamondDandy happy, you need to look at the pitching stats in the Post from this past Tuesday. Ryle has 4 pitchers in the top 10 in number of wins.

Ryle has the pitching to win in a regional that is over in 3 or 4 days.

I guess it's off topic...but I must agree with you...Ryle's staff is much better than anybody's...maturity and experience in the field and at the plate...it's their tournament in a three game series imo...

Oh what a wonderful looking group of men at the CovCath vs. Beechwood game today. Sure glad their sons are in a lot better shape than the Dads are! Good job men......:D

I wonder how those wonderful CovCath Moms can top this?

CovCath Dads.....

I need to single out a couple of kids from CovCath who are having an outstanding season, but I hardly ever mention. Senior Matthew Reis who bats second for CovCath this season and Sophomore Ryan Darner who is the clean up hitter. Matthew was 2/3 again today with a triple and had another great defensive game. Young Darner who with Beechwood walking Maile twice, must have thought they could get him out, but they found out other wise when he went 4-4. Great job men!!!

From the Cincy Enquirer:

Colonels roll to district title:

Covington Catholic racks up 14 hits, 12 walks vs. Beechwood

Covington Catholic coach Bill Krumpelbeck shook his head and called it ugly. Catcher Luke Maile grinned and said it was awesome.

There was a lot to be said about the Colonels' 20-9, six-inning rout of Beechwood in the 35th District championship. But the Colonels were just glad to call it a win.

CovCath avenged last season's 35th District championship loss to Beechwood on Wednesday at Meinken Field and earned a top seed in next week's Ninth Region tournament. Both teams advance.

Congratulations and what a photo, of the Dads....Good to see, we all don't take ourselves so serious, all the time.

Hey...I'am trying to be good. Just kicking back and enjoying the most exciting part of the season. Congrats on winning the district and hope to see you guys next week.

I think my comment was "dominating pitchers." Beechwood had 4 kids last yr(Curley, Moore, Elliott and Bankemper) who could beat anyone on any given day. No one in the 9th region has a pitching staff like that this yr that can just mow teams down, that was my point. Yes, they have 6 wins but against who? IMO, the region is down this yr w/less quality teams. I have come to believe that if a pitcher, in HS, just throws the ball over the plate, they can be successful. Beechwood pitchers found that out against CCH, walks, walks and more walks will kill you. I think they walked 8, hit 2 and 8 of these runners scored.

As for next yr, you would have to agree w/only losing one starter off this yrs team, they might make big noise next yr since at times they start 2 8th graders. They will be a dominated team w/Sr's and some young, live arms all returning!
