Theoldguy Posted May 24, 2007 Posted May 24, 2007 CovCath 20 Beechwood 9 (6 innings). I think Neihaus was the winner, and Elliott the loser.. Far too many hits, runs scored and rbi's by both teams for me to keep track of. Highlits..... Beechwood another team that tested the outfield arms of the CovCath outfield and paid the prize as Maile nailed a Beechwood runner out at the plate in the 1st. Maile hit a shot that although it wasn't as deep or as high as the one Bleser hit on Monday, it was a no doubter the moment the ball hit the bat. Beechwood pointed to 1st and walked Maile with runner on first and second and two out in another inning and Darner made them pay. With the base loaded and Maile up the Beechwood didn't give Maile even a tiny bit of a chance to hit, and walked him this time on four pitches. The most exciting play of the game, was with CovCath having men on second and third and one down, and CovCath puts on the squeeze, big deal right! Well with Pop on second and when the bunt went down the Beechwood player had no play on the runner going home, so throws the ball to first and the batter is out, however Popham didn't slow down at all and beat the first basemen throw home to score two run on one squeeze bunt play... WOW.... CovCath Sophomore Maile broke a CovCath team record of 61 RBI's for a season and that record has been around since 1992. Great job Luke. Again the CovCath team had everybody hitting and the end came when number eight hitter Ice (Isler) with the bases loaded, hit a shot over Elliott the Beechwood CF to put CovCath up by 10..... On to the Region now for both CovCath and Beechwood. All Regional winners and losers will be going to Champion Window Field to play on Monday and I was told the games will be at 10am, 1pm, 4pm and 7pm.
Diamond Dandy Posted May 24, 2007 Posted May 24, 2007 Whoda thunk that would be a 29 run game. Hope you guys had the over.
cshs81 Posted May 24, 2007 Posted May 24, 2007 Congrats to Luke on the RBI record. That's impressive.
Theoldguy Posted May 24, 2007 Author Posted May 24, 2007 Whoda thunk that would be a 29 run game. Hope you guys had the over. That's 12 against Cov Holy Cross and then 20 against Beechwood for a total of 32 runs scored in the 35th District by the third seeded Colonels and both Cov Holy Cross and Beechwood threw their aces against CovCath. I think that shoutout against Ryle woke up the Colonles bats a tad bit, don't you?
Theoldguy Posted May 24, 2007 Author Posted May 24, 2007 How many runs did they score off of Elliott? This is only a guess but I think 6/7 before he was taken out. CovCath was hitting him hard, but I must say Beechwood was hitting the CovCath pitchers hard also. Beechwood I think threw five pitchers, and CovCath threw House (Niehaus) and Nutini...
colonelblue Posted May 24, 2007 Posted May 24, 2007 Elliott was taken out shortly after he was hit on a come backer to the mound in the shin
cshs81 Posted May 24, 2007 Posted May 24, 2007 17 runs given up in 2 games might be a concern to Krumps.
Bwood Posted May 24, 2007 Posted May 24, 2007 Proud of the Tigers...I think this team surprised a lot of people this year. The game was not the "cakewalk" that the final score reflected. Season's not over yet!
cooperstown Posted May 24, 2007 Posted May 24, 2007 The most exciting play of the game, was with CovCath having men on second and third and one down, and CovCath puts on the squeeze, big deal right! WOW.... . Double suicide. One of the absolute coolest plays in all of baseball. As long as it works, of course. :ylsuper:
3ptshooter Posted May 24, 2007 Posted May 24, 2007 Errors, errors and more errors along w/walks, walks and more walks. You can not beat any team w/this many mistakes. CCH just kept swinging and swinging. It is a matter of putting the ball in play and making the other team field it. The 6th inn for BHS should have been over w/no runs scored by CCH and down 12-9. Instead, they give up 8 runs on 3 hits after getting the first two hitters out. No team can win w/this happening. From what I have seen throughout the region, there is not ONE team w/really any dominating pitching, I don't mean just one pitcher either. Whoever wins the 9th will be due to hits, hits and more hits as I am not impressed w/any of the top teams defenses. W/that said, IMO, Ryle and CCH do just that, they hit, hit and hit some more at least in the few games I have seen them play. Beechwood, last yr got to the finals w/several good pitchers and that will not be the case this yr.
3ptshooter Posted May 24, 2007 Posted May 24, 2007 Double suicide. One of the absolute coolest plays in all of baseball. As long as it works, of course. :ylsuper: I haven't seen this since my team was beaten in the regional finals of the Connie Mack tournament to go to the World Series, Midland Cardinals 2, Midland Redskins 1, what a game that was. This is a very exciting play! Saddest thing is that BHS actually practiced against this and still could not defend it.
Bwood Posted May 24, 2007 Posted May 24, 2007 Loosing 2 lefties hurt...Cody of course, is strong, Hadden and AJ have pitched really well, still think when we fine tune the other pitchers, we'll be fine.
3ptshooter Posted May 24, 2007 Posted May 24, 2007 Loosing 2 lefties this year hurt, we have pitching, just needs some fine tuning. The 6th inning has been a killer for us this year against CCH. They do have pitching but not consistant pitching w/the exception of Elliott in regards to walks. One day they will throw a remakable game and the next time out can not find the plate. They have super exceeded everyone's expectations this yr, IMO but next yr watch out for the Tigers to make a lot of noise, like another regional title. No one can say young and inexperieced w/next yrs team. They all got plenty of experience this yr so that excuse will no longer be valid. Make some noise in the regional!!:dancingpa
bgpreppy Posted May 24, 2007 Posted May 24, 2007 From what I have seen throughout the region, there is not ONE team w/really any dominating pitching, I don't mean just one pitcher either. 3PS, As much as I hate to say this... because I know it makes DiamondDandy happy, you need to look at the pitching stats in the Post from this past Tuesday. Ryle has 4 pitchers in the top 10 in number of wins. Ryle has the pitching to win in a regional that is over in 3 or 4 days. If it goes more than that, Cov Cath has enough... pitching, with Niehaus, Blesser, Nutini, Isler and others. From what I know about the rest of the teams, they are going to struggle. Again, as much as I hate to say it, I do think that the infield defense and pitching will win it for Ryle... not the offense. If Cov Cath wins it, it is because of GREAT COACHING and strong offense. There is not a weak spot in thier offensive line-up. I am considering just packing up the truck with a cooler, a sling chair, and a canopy and parking up at Freedom Field and watching baseball all day on Monday. What better way to spend a holiday.
