I went to the game and the highlight of the game was when Luke Maile hit the homerun. He did a great bat flip when he hit it.

 

Great player but this is not necessary at the high school level. This disappointed me..... As a player, especially in high school, you don't show up the other kids by flipping the bat.

 

I was leaning towards Maile as POY, now I am back on Farris after the flip of the bat.

Nice 8th grade class. The catcher probably starts varsity next season. One other may get varsity time from what I understand.

Agreed. There's a fine line. This doesn't sound like a big deal. It certainly doesn't deserve to have another player hit in the head by a pitch, right? I can't imagine what action would justify the ol' earhole plug.

It is showboating and it has no place in HS sports. BTW this is not the first time this has happened this season. Agree it doesn't warrant a player being hit but maybe benched.

Have you ever seen a linebacker hit a receiver across the middle with a clean, but violent hit. Do you take his knees out the next play because he stood over the receiver after the hit and taunted him???

 

Have you ever seen one of the other POY candidates get a double with bases loaded in a close game, and then clap over his head once he gets to second celebrating a clutch hit. We don't throw at his ear-hole.

 

Have you ever seen one of the Top volleyball players serve an ace or get a kill and the players celebrate a great play?? We don't wish lightning would strike her...

 

What Luke did is show passion for the game. He showed what you see everyday in other sports.

Apparently there are different standards on BGP...this kid is being held to one that's unigue to him I guess. I realize success breads attention and scrutiny...but at least be reasonable. It really wasn't much! It is exactly like hundreds of emotional expressions by competitive kids all over the country. Pumping the fist after a big three....clapping the hands after a big single, double, whatever...a high five after turning a double play...jumping and chestbumbing after a td or a big hit in fb....it goes on and on. This kid must be an absolute punk? So far we've got wearing his hat backwards under his catchers helmet...and flipping his bat down after a home run...not a big deal..nothing different than you see every day all over. The only difference is he has your full attention...that's not fair imo. Are you telling me you haven't seen any other poy candidate express any emotion? I saw Ferris these past two years flip, and it didn't even phase me...heck, Mr Ferris hit the ball 400 plus feet on one of them...I would guess it's kinda a natural reaction to watch for second and flip it aside when you hit it that far that fast.....

I agree (as you can see from my post). Makes me wonder if 3ps heard the snide remarks yelled out of the Beechwood dugout by bench players when Blesser let the ground ball roll through his legs at first base in the 5th or 6th inning of Wednesday nights game.

 

Beechwood bench players taunting the opponent, and all this while Beechwood was being routed. I doubt it ever entered thier minds to plunk a Beechwood player after those remarks... you know why... because these are kids, it is no big deal and life goes on after the game.

If there is anything classless, it is making an insinuation that flipping a bat after hitting a home run is worse than intentionally trying in injure a player by throwing at his head. Throwing at him is the only classless thing about your post.... Think about it....:irked: :irked:

 

 

As usual, the CCH faithful putting words into everyone else's mouths. The word classless never was written in any of my post, get a clue! Obviously, this young player will play at the next level, been there done that. If he pulls this in a college game, guarantee when he comes up the next time the ball will be headed for the earhole even if the pitcher he hit it off of is still on the mound or not. It is part of baseball to brush the batter back and get him off the plate. Maybe earhole wasn't a good example but don't use words w/something I write especially a big word like "classless." Luke is a great kid and they all make mistakes, that is how they learn, by making mistakes. I am sure his father/mother will correct him about that if they saw what he did.

 

Personally, I could care less if they jump up and down and hoop and holler but expect to pay the consequences next time up. Like I said, at the next level if anything like this occurs be ready to get down and out of the way because the ball will be coming and not over the plate.

This is now a 15 yd penalty, unsportsman like! I don't think baseball has any of these type rules.

That is by far the worst reason to sway a vote that i have ever heard

I don't form an opinion/vote on stats alone. How a player conducts himself is important also, maybe more important than stats. I have never heard of Farris doing anything that would be considered taunting to another player/team. They both are good and probably the top 2, conduct yourself like you are one of the top players.
