All 4 teams are loaded with quality players & maybe on a given day any one could beat the other. Team Ky & DS Est were in the semi's but I get your point, yes the finals were Shining Stars & Jazz. I do not think East Bank meant to slight either of those teams in his post. Congrats to all 4 teams especially Shining Stars on their big win.

Exactly, thanks for clairifying that for me. Its hard for me to comment on the others because I don't have alot of info on them, they are obviously pretty talented as well.:thumb:

Yeah, I agree I've seen him play several times in the 15th region since he was a freshman and he's never been selfish. He could probabily average 35ppg if he wanted to be selfish, but alot of times he does seem to pass up shots that he could eaisly make and I think the reason for this is because he dosen't want people to think he is a selfish player and at times he needs to just play his game and put the ball in the basket. He's and extremly good defender, probabily the best in the 15th region and the thing that most people fail to realize is that he averaged 8 board per game while playing the 2 and 3 which makes it that much more impressive. He seems to be a very down to earth kid and intelligant kid and has the ability to play at a good college. With that being said I just can't see alot of players in the state better than him. Athletically yes, more height and bulk yes, but better all around(shooting, defending, getting to the basket, rebounding, setting up teammates, getting to the free throw line...etc) I hard for me to imagine that.

I was very impressed with the Slone kid when I saw him at the AAU State. He has a great handle, strong build, good shot, and good decision making. He is a package player...not sure how tall maybe 6'2 or 6'3. He may be in the top 15 of the state. I thought he should have been in at the end of the game in the semi's...he is stronger and better with the ball than the Stepp kid. That said, the DS team is a very talented team but I think they stuck with the zone too much...not many of those kids are used to playing zone let alone a 1-3-1 and with Novosel, Hundley, Slone, Thomas, and Smart in there they can rebound the ball.

Who runs the point for DS 17&U?

Where are they playing this weekend?

Stepp, Thomas and Slone usually run the point for DS-17. They are not playing this weekend.

Heard Phares had been working with a trainer on his explosion and agility. Looks like it is helping him from looking at the comments.

The worst thing you see watching these AAU tournaments is a lack of defense. I seen some players really be impressive and score 20 points or so shooting the ball really well, but players were wide open so much of the time. Also, last weekend at the KBA for the state tourney I just did not see hardly any teams that I considered to be well-coached.

Really? You ever notice that during the winter season too?

I'd be shocked if any of the teams were well coached. Were any?

Have to disagree with you there! True some teams may not be well coached, some not as good as others, but there are definitley some that are very well coached. Just like during the regular season. It may look more like it in summer AAU because a lot of the teams are so spread out & practice time is very rare in some cases. You are using a general over used sterotype about AAU summer ball that is not accurate in most cases. The defense on the majority of the teams is very good because you have solid kids who take pride in their game & are well coached.

Its not just that its the way these coaches act. Not every coach is bad, but most I have seen I thought acted pretty ridiculous. I think AAU in general has more negatives than positives because of a lot of these coaches.

If you think there are quite a few bad coaches in AAU, let me tell you there are just as many or more running high school programs.

Hmmm, Well after viewing the last several posts, maybe one should add this before some personal attacks/finger pointing starts, as several AAU coaches post on this site.

Sort of what Sidlinecoach stated, practice time on ever AAU team is not as it would be for high school teams, high school teams generally get 6 to 8 weeks of practicing, 5 days a week, for 2-3 hours per practice. AAU teams are lucky to find a gym at times, some don't have practice at all, for one of many reasons. Even teams that are lucky enough to find gym time still do not get even close to the amount of gym time a high school coach gets with his/her team. Then at the higher age levels such as 15 on up, most of the players already should know all of the fundamentals and intangibles of the game, there just isn't time to work on these things, these players MUST work on their own before tourneys. If they don't possess them by now, it may be too late anyway. Now at the younger age levels there are rec leagues just about everywhere, where there is time to work on things, as winning shouldn't be important at all.

I applaud my fellow AAU coaches out there, for one it's not an easy thing to do at times, getting enough players who want to play, making sure everyone shows up, working around players activities such as others sports they may participate in, and unless you are a coach of a top 25-50 player in the nation, there is no money in it, in fact you put some or a lot of your own money in it, for the kids!

I also applaud any AAU player, they are out there trying to get some more games in during the spring and summer, trying to get better, as well as having fun, as most LOVE the game! On top of that they get to meet new people, make new friends, experience different things that they may not have been afforded in the past. The ones who stick with it shows heart, determination and desire, as well as the love for the game, and show they can adapt to new and different experiences and situations.

Besides, this thread is about "The Best PLAYERS" one may have seen this spring and summer, not is AAU good or bad, If I am not mistaken we already had a thread about that. ;)
