May 16, 200719 yr I'll give you this: If he continues to hit like he is now, he will have earned his salary. However, that money is not well spent on this club. It may be on others . Not this one. Its not his fault, though. Is he helping this team be a contender this year? Next? Again , not entirely his fault but that money should be spent elsewhere for the upcoming seasons. You can have a better overall club with Freel in right (and I'm not a huge Freel guy either) , use $10M on solid middle relief, and plug in a decent 3rd baseman. That still might not get the Reds to the promised land but they would be a better team overall. That's the point. Griffey is NOT the problem. His contract on THIS team is the problem. By the way, I'm a Dunn supporter but its getting time for him to elevate his game as well or his contract will be a problem as well. Griffey, upon coming to cincinnati took a deal that was well below his market value and he has also deferred money so the Reds could go and get what they have needed. Griffey has actually breathed a little life into the reds lately and he has shown that we can go and get a big name we just have to put more around him than edwin encarnarcion and eric milton.
