Decked out in his full catching gear Coughlin had just spent 20 minutes experiencing the ultimate rush for a backstop. Sean Coughlin, meet Roger Clemens. You know, 'The Rocket'. The latest Roger Clemens comeback tour again made its first stop in Lexington as the future Hall of Fame pitcher descended upon UK's quaint stadium on Tuesday morning. The soon-to-be New York Yankee spent time with Kentucky's pitchers and catchers and then threw a bullpen session with players and media looking on. After spending the majority of the time framing Clemens' arsenal of pitches Coughlin was short for words. "Pretty hard, pretty nasty," Coughlin said with a smile. And thus the comeback was on, with UK and Lexington once again a welcoming bystander to the story. That was just fine with Clemens as well whose son, Koby, is a third baseman with the Lexington Legends, the Single-A affiliate for the Houston Astros. The 44-year old Clemens announced Sunday he would return for another year, this time with the Yankees. "It was already on my schedule," Clemens said of coming to Lexington. "I had the opportunity to see Koby and planned on working with some pitchers on the other side of town. My agent knows some people here at the University. I heard some people say I wasn't allowed to go over (to Applebee's Park) but that wasn't nearly the case. It's comical. I wish people would take the time to find out the details. May 9, 200719 yr Clemens can't use the facilities of the Astros per MLB rules, so he has to use the facilties at the Cliff. It's not like Clemens has to travel with the Yankees or anything.
May 9, 200719 yr I think his son plays minor league baseball in Lexington. :thumb: Correct, He will not be able to work out with the Legends bc they are an Astro's farm team so he will w/o with U.K.. This will be great for U.k.'s baseball team :thumb: , what a learning experience!
May 9, 200719 yr Tremendous learning opportunity, from one of the greatest pitchers ever. I'm sure the players were absorbing, his comments, preparation and philosophy to baseball. Saw an excerpt on TV and he dressed down, some former teammates, who commented on him in the press. Excellent job and I'm sure, Coach Cohen and Coach Henderson, will welcome Clemens for any outing.
