Yes they can. If you catch your kid pulling in late one night smelling like booze your going to say "Oh, he's his own person, I can't stop him"? No! For Hancock, it was convenient, he was drunk, it was late, and he drove. He can afford to pay the fine if he was busted and he knew he would be in the bullpen the very next game, what did it matter to him?

I have a father in law that is an alcoholic. My wife and I have (Neither of us drink, or have ever had a DUI) both tried having heart to hearts with him numerous times. I received a call two Sundays ago as soon as I got out of church. My mother in law wanted to know if I could get him into the ER right away. His B/A was over .400 How receptive does it sound like he's been to us?

Are you an authority figure to him? Do you have the power to take away what he loves? What can LaRussa really say to anyone about a drinking problem and have it be respected???

Do you honestly think that if LaRussa had never gotten a DUI, that after LaRussa had a heart to heart with Hancock, that Hancock would have quit drinking and driving?

I can take away his opportunities of seeing his grandkids. This is obviously something we simply won't agree on. That's OK. It won't be the 1st time you've been wrong. :D

It is entirely irrelevant if the accident would or would not have happened. My argument is this: Tony LaRussa's job requires him to lead players, and it extends off the field, having a recent DUI and then having a player drive drunk and die makes him lose credibility in those leadership abilities.

I really want someone to explain to me what LaRussa or anyone else could have done to prevent this. This really is close to my heart. Here's why.

 

Soon after I graduated from high school, I was at the restaurant where I worked and a good friend of mine, who I played basketbal with, came in. I could tell he was drinking and did everything I could think of to get him to let me drive him home but he wouldn't have it. Well we made plans to play ball the next day and he left and I went home.

 

When I woke up the next moring I found out that he was killed about 15 minutes after we parted company. He was driving on the wrong side of the road with no head lights.

That will be my last post on it, I don't need anymore enemies.
