How so? If he was fired then, there might have been a lot of issues avoided, and it would have been likely they didn't have to blow up the program and start over. Plus Huggins working for an academic institution changes things quite a bit.

Because you said Huggins should have been fired when it happened, not a year later. That's my point. I have no problem at all with LaRussa being fired for a DUI, but it should have happened right away, not now.

I agree with GT here. I didn't know what was going on at first, until I watched 1st and 10 this morning and they talked about it. If the guy in charge, the authority on the team, is out driving drunk, you would have to expect the players to as well. Or at least feel as though there wouldn't be any team affiliated punishments for it.

If your boss at work gets a DUI, does that mean we should expect you to get one too? That's just nonsense. People are responsible for their own actions. That's one of the biggest problems we have today. Someone is always trying to place the blame on someone else's shoulders for the actions of individuals.

LaRussa is responsible for the team. He's the leader. The leader set a bad example. He's responsible for his own actions, and his actions have to be taken in to account for this situation as it has evolved...

I agree but stepping down does nothing. He should start a AA meeting to be held IN THE CLUBHOUSE. He should swear off alcohol and become the national spokesman against drunk driving. He should make it his life goal to fight the battle against drunk driving.

Stepping down means he is out of baseball for a couple of years till George fires Torre and gets LaRussa out of retirement.

Out of the things that you listed, I agree stepping down is the most likely to happen.

 

But if you want to be a man and a leader, you look to solve problems not run from them, IMVHO.
