Rich Witten or Ben Revere

Featured Replies

Witten appeared to be throwing about 87-90 when Danville beat St. Mary at Applebee's Park in last year's All A Classic.

If he was throwing 94, he would be signed with an SEC school and be a high-round draft pick.

I have seen Witten pitch several times over the last two years and have had a gun on him. This season he has been pitching at 88-91. With most games throwing 5-10 pitches 92-94 mph.

He also did have several offers from SEC school, but decided to go play on the beach at Coastal Carolina Univerisity. If you look at the college polls you will see CCU has been ranked in the top 25 all season, ahead of many of those SEC schools, including Revere's Georga Bulldogs.

Both players are very good and will be good at where ever they are playing next season.

I agree that Revere is the real deal and has more appeal to pro scouts at this point in time. But it is not fair to compare high school schedules. Catholic has much more overall talent and also is a 3A school. Witten also impresses during the summer leagues where he plays some of the top talent around.

First, I think Witten is a very good baseball player. But, I do think you have to consider schedules when comparing stats. Revere gets his stats against the toughest competition in the state. I don't know what you mean by Catholic being a 3A school because they play against much bigger schools. I think Dunbar is one of the biggest in the state. I did not see the game, but didn't Catholic beat Danville pretty good last year when they faced Witten?

With your logic a good player should be able to hit over .600 with 25 homeruns if they play a weak schedule? Funny it doesn't happen more often then. I'm sure lots of teams in the state play a weaker schedule than LexCath.

Last time I checked Trinity, Ballard, and Male were big schools too. Would you like Witten's stats from those games?

Let's make a list of stats against quality opponents and only count those. But we can only compare them if they faced the same pitcher on the same amount of days rest. Home runs will only count on fields of specified dimensions and will be excluded if the wind was blowing out.

Lexington Cath. does play a tough schedule but Danville's is not full of a bunch of bad teams. They have already played ten games against team ranked in the top 25 and they play #4 Owensboro Cath. on Saturady. Lex. Cath. schedule is probably a little tougher because of the Dist. they play in.

Witten didn't have a good game pitching last season in the Semi-state game against Cath., but that was his only loss of the season. He did pitch and beat Dunbar and LCA and 11 other pretty good teams last season. If you ask Lex. Cath.'s pitchers I would believe they would say he is a pretty good hitter too. I believe he was 6 for 11 with 3 HR's in the series against them.

I have never seen Witten play but have heard many good things about him. I have seen Ben Revere play baseball and football many times and I have not seen as great an athlete in any high school sport in KY.

The same thing was said about Michael Bush his senior year...

You also have to keep in mind that Witten might not pitch against "quality" teams because when Danville plays in tourneys the rotation appears to be set up for Witten to pitch in the championship game. In some cases they might not make it to the championship game for Witten to pitch against "top notch" competition. And who cares about how fast they throw. Pitching on an MLB level does not always require velocity. Ask Jeremy Sowers how much he has needed a 94 mph fastball to succeed at the highest level. I hope both players have successful baseball careers so the whole state can have 2 more quality baseball players playing in the majors from Kentucky. Maybe the Astros can draft them so we can watch them as Legends. I'd say they are both familiar with Applebees Park.

I hear Revere is running a 3.9 from home to first after contact. It is reported that it's the best time at any level of baseball including majors.

Yesterday Revere hit a routine hit to third and the third baseman threw it over to first in normal time and Revere beat it out. Wow he's fast.

5 tool player

Revere can fly. I saw him againist PRP beat out a ground ball to the first basemen.

Also do we have stats on Revere yet, I see them for Witten but not for Revere.

I am not much of a baseball person, but I do know one of the football coaches at Catholic and they say he can easily run a 4.3 second 40-yard dash and his fastest time is 4.2. He is also about 5'7 and can dunk a basketball.

I've seen Revere play a few times in both football and baseball and he is definately a talent. I haven't seen the Witten kid pitch but I from everything I have heard he is the real deal both pitching and hitting. Bottom line, two good players from Central Kentucky.

I read that Revere had the fastest 60 time in the nation last summer at a Team 1 showcase in Wilmington, with a time of 6.3.

well stated.

Exactly!

Kentucky has two players on the 2007 Louisville Slugger's Pre-Season 1st Team All American Team:

Ben Revere, Lexington Catholic, Outfield (University of Georgia)

Rich Witten, Danville, RHP/SS (Coastal Carolina)

Two great players from Kentucky being recognized!
