Will Coach Deaton be helping with the football team this season out at Whitley? I was told that the other day. Having played Qb at UK, I am sure he could be a big asset to the program.

Will Coach Deaton be back at Whitley next year? If he were to help he would be a big plus for Coach Black. His son was a special player.

...... Deaton not coming back?.....Maybe that is what this person meant when they said something to the effect that " Coach Deaton was helping the football team out at Whitley". Never know what you might hear out at Davenport's. Lots of jokin and kiddin around goes on while drinking a Dr. Pepper and eatin a Bologna sandwich.

Maybe Apex can tell us more about these developing events. Ramblinman keeps his fingers on the pulse of the Colonel sports programs as well. As long as someone does not steal Coach Black's "Green Folder" the Colonels will be running and gunning.

I heard a couple of rumors...One is that McCumbers will not play football next year and that Coach Deaton was leaving and heading back to the Somerset area...

Apex what are you hearing...

Why would McCumbers not play this year? He would seem to fit in well as the QB in the spread offense.

What a shame about McCumbers if he does not play. Who will be the QB? There also seems to be alot of speculation about what type of offense that Black is going to run this year. Campbell ran the Wing T for years.

J. Lebanion will be the Q.B. for Whitley this year.
Did he play qb last year?

Lebanion played WR, and got hurt about mid-season. I dont believe he played the rest of the year.

Now that we are in the dead period, can anyone tell me how the Colonels did in the passing leagues? I did heard that they beat Wiliamsburg and won the fight too. Other than that I have not been hearing anything..Where is Bubba when you need him??

Whitley did beat Williamsburg at UK., and there was not much of a fight.

Just a little heat of the battle..:fight: ..... I did hear that the Colonels did win a few games and have improved, leaps and bounds as compared to last years 2-8 team.. The question still remains what kind of offense will the Colonels run.. There was alot of talk about the qb. taking snaps from under the center.

Bubba has been trying to figure out what kind of offense the Colonels will run to be honest. From my sources it will be about the same as last season with several more running and short passes thrown in. Not sure about the accuracy of LeBanion, but he is a much more athletic player at the QB position. Williamsburg will be a little young this season and the Colonels should have been able to handle them with ease. It does surprise me that a little fight would break out considering both coaches run a tight ship. I will head out to Davenport's once the dead period is over and see what the experts out there know about matters.

I don't know if the coach's have truely decided on an offensive style yet, from what I have heard it will be more than likely a hodgepodge of things, you know a little of this and a little of that! Good luck to them, they should win their district this year!

"Hodgepodge"

1. American Heritage Dictionary - Cite This Source hodge·podge (hŏj'pŏj')

n. A mixture of dissimilar ingredients; a jumble.2. a heterogeneous mixture; jumble.

3. a motley assortment of things

4. 1426 (hogpoch), alteration of hotchpotch (c.1386), from a legal term in Anglo-Fr. (attested from 1292) for collecting of property in a common pot before dividing it, from O.Fr. hochepot "stew, soup," first element from hocher "to shake," from a Gmc. source (cf. M.H.G. hotzen "shake").

—Synonyms conglomeration, miscellany,muddle, mess.

I am not sure this exudes confidence in the offensive scheme of Jim Black this year, but it should surely make them hard to prepare for them.

With those kookey uniforms they have been wearing that may be the most exciting thing about the Colonels. To be honest I am a little worried, not hearing anything concrete about the offense or defense or the personel, normally by this time you are starting to hear some things out in the community.
