2007 Whitley County

Bell and Rock will serve well as playoff prep games, as they have the talent and numbers comparable to a good number of playoff bound 5A teams, and could beat alot of the playoff contending 5A's. Plus, they are not on the other side of the state, which makes it nice.

Middlesboro is always competitive but usually have a fair amount of 2 way football players, which is something you won't see in most playoff bound 5A's. But still, they are very atheltic and closer to home.

Although competitive in thier class, Newport and Lynn Camp offer no benefit to the Colonels as they are significantly undermatched in the personel department. Therefore, these games will not even imitate the looks, level of competiton, or style of play of a 5A program. I'm not sure but I could see Jim Black upgrading these games if he can turn the corner down there.

I would think that most of the 5A schools who establish themselves as powerhouses will for the most part platoon players, (play them only on 1 side of the football) and have extra good special teams play. To be competitive, Whitley must not only try in years to come to develop enough players to do this, but also they should spend thier friday nights playing teams who at least play the game like a good 5A school.

Are any of these schools 5A schools? Pick on some one your own size and then talk about how tough your schedule is.

You are joking right?

I don't think Whitley is picking on anyone, but they are upgrading their schedule. If you don't think Bell, Rock and Middlesboro are not challenging then you have not been watching much football lately. They are very respected programs with good coaches and compete every year. Newport was 8-4 and a playoff team, and Lynn Camp, well they have played for a long time, and just year before last beat Whitley. Don't forget about Woodford County, lost in the second round of the 4A playoffs to Henry Clay.

You seem to forget that Whitley was only 2-8 last year and trying to build. Whitlely is trying to build to the time when they get the respect that those programs recieve, but to get that repsect you have to beat those teams.

Besides, outside of Whitley's district there are not mnay 5A schools to play within a reasonable traveling distance, I think they have had enough of touring the state (North Hardin and Shelby County last year)

I think the schedule is competitive and about what the Colonels are ready for at this point in the rebuilding process. Last year showed that North Hardin, Shelby Co. and the other five A schools were a step or two above the Colonels. Coach Black knows what he is doing, just give him a little time and things will get better soon enough.

So what is the word now on the Colonels....are they up to the schedule...can they compete?

The Colonels will contend for the district title this year and should finish no lower than 2nd.

Where is Whitley going to camp this year.......

Does anyone know who Whitley has scrimmaged?

Whitley scrimmaged GRC last Friday Night.
