April 11, 200719 yr Boring article imo. The list was good but he went for all big names. It seems like if somebody was going to take to time to write an article like this they might go out on a limb with some coaches instead of picking the coaches that everyone already knows are top notch.
April 11, 200719 yr Notice that it was a safe number like ten. I wish someone would rank the top 25 programs in the country. That would ruffle some feathers.

Well if they're not top-notch, they wouldn't be one of the Top 10 coaches in America. Duh. Perhaps he could make another list, say "Top 10 Coaches to Watch," and step out on the limb on those.

Perhaps he could make another list, say "Top 10 Coaches to Watch," and step out on the limb on those. There quite a bit more top notch coaches in the country than 10 and they don't all coach at big name schools either. The list is obviously debatable as well and I just thought it was a very generic list that anybody could write if they wanted to.
April 11, 200719 yr Author Notice that it was a safe number like ten. I wish someone would rank the top 25 programs in the country. That would ruffle some feathers. Go for it. We'll even promote it here on BGP as Crimedoc's Top 25 College Basketball coaches. :D
April 11, 200719 yr Programs not coaches mod. Too easy to list coaches, most people cannot name 25 but anyone can name 25 programs. Ranking them accurately should be tough enough.
April 11, 200719 yr The writer admits that this is a "what have you done lately" list. I guess I would ask what have some of these guys done at all? Not including Coach Knight in any top ten list makes it a joke. In case the writer didn't notice, Coach Knight has turned TT into a basketball team where one didn't exist.

April 11, 200719 yr Wow. Tubby not even in "others considered". That shouldn't be a big shock...he made it pretty clear that the list was based largely on the present and less on the past and weighted by what the coaches had to work with which has to be affected by where they are coaching. Tubby has been struggling recently at an elite school and his resume isn't as strong as some of the other guys who had bad years this year (Izzo and Calhoun). I'm a little skeptical about whether Gillispie makes that list if he's still coaching A & M.
April 11, 200719 yr Who else can win at Gonzaga like he has. He has the 3-4 highest win percentage of active coaches or was the fastest coach to 200 wins or something like that. ESPN did a special on him. Remarkable coach. How can he win at such a rate? 2 games per year against each of these teams: Santa Clara San Diego Saint Mary's San Francisco Loyola Marymount Portland Pepperdine Few's record is hardly comparable to any coach in a major conference. By the way, he lost to Saint Mary's, Loyola-Marymount, and at home to Santa Clara this year.
