bellalumni40 Posted April 8, 2007 Posted April 8, 2007 I'm with Matt Jones on this one, I think once you have gone past the job, you shouldnt comment on it anymore unless you have an active part in the program in some way. Newton should not be questioning anything that Barnhart is doing, just as Pitino or Tubby shouldnt question anything Gillispie does. Joe B. Hall may be a different story as he is always around the program, but he is too classy an individual to do that anyway. I disagree with Newton coming out with this. 1&ONLY44 Posted April 8, 2007 Posted April 8, 2007 Good point--if you are gonna "role the dice" per se--why not Ford or Pelphrey?
westsider Posted April 8, 2007 Posted April 8, 2007 Because Gillispie's credentials are much better than those of Ford and Pelphrey. I wonder if Newton had the same philsophy when he pursued P.J. Carlesimo ...
ColonelCrazy Posted April 8, 2007 Posted April 8, 2007 John Pelphrey will be the next coach at Kentucky, after Billy G. With that said, I'm not sure why CM Newton would come out and say something like this.
$$East-Bank$$ Posted April 8, 2007 Posted April 8, 2007 This coming from the man who hired Tubby Smith....thats a joke.
PhiSlamaJama Posted April 8, 2007 Posted April 8, 2007 I agree with everyone else, its not CM Newton's place to be questioning anything that the University of Kentucky or Mitch Barnhart does. The only thing that I agree with in the article is paying Gillispie the 50k each year is a little off IMO. I think that should just be a given.
firebird Posted April 8, 2007 Posted April 8, 2007 This coming from the same guy that hired Hal Mumme and Bernadette Mattox.
$$East-Bank$$ Posted April 8, 2007 Posted April 8, 2007 He just wants people to remember his "Legacy" as an AD and he's afraid he'll be overshadowed by Barnhart if he's a success at UK. He's just trying to say all he can to bring him down, I never realize CM was so selfish!
MountainThunder Posted April 8, 2007 Posted April 8, 2007 I have always respected CM Newton, but aside from Pitino and Tubby, I can't think of many of his hires that have performed as well as Mitch's have so far. Brooks turned around the football mess created by Mumme (Newton's hire), ... Cohen took the baseball team to a new level they have never been before under Newton's hire, ... DeMoss has improved the women's hoops team in a much shorter time than Newton's hire of Mattox, etc. I think he should support him, just as Joe B Hall is doing.
NEXT Posted April 8, 2007 Posted April 8, 2007 This coming from the man who hired Tubby Smith....thats a joke. And said that Tubby wasn't the man for long-term success at UK but the man to come in and take a roster that was good and turn it into a NC...........
Pancake Posted April 8, 2007 Posted April 8, 2007 John Pelphrey will be the next coach at Kentucky, after Billy G. With that said, I'm not sure why CM Newton would come out and say something like this. I agree with JP being the next coach in around 5 years.
Augger Posted April 8, 2007 Posted April 8, 2007 CM Newton had one good hire. Rick Pitino other than that his record was not the greatest.
UKPat02 Posted April 8, 2007 Posted April 8, 2007 I respect CM and the job he did with UK basketball, however, I wish he would just voice his support instead of questioning MB's hire.
bellalumni40 Posted April 8, 2007 Author Posted April 8, 2007 I agree with JP being the next coach in around 5 years. I would hope that UK wont need a new coach in 5 years. If that is the case, then Gillispie has failed miserably. As long as he is successful, Gillispie will probably be here at least 10 years, and maybe more than that. He doesnt strike me as the kind of guy to be an NBA coach, so I think college coaching is where he will stay regardless of his success.
