I was at the HHS vs Cov. Cath JV game this afternoon. The players from HHS heard about a Cov. Cath. player that has a serious illness. Out of goodwill and sportsmanship the HHS JV team presented to Cov. Cath. at the end of the game a basket full of "goodies" (sunflower seeds/bubble gum) to forward onto their teammate to cheer him up. The score didn't matter once you saw this occur. It just shows two arch rivals can respect each other and what really matters is compasion for others. I was approached by two gentlemen from Cov. Cath. as I left the field and they both were amazed at the gerture.

Was at the Varsity game, but what the men of Highlands JV team did, well.....what a great gesture of kindness and caring...... Thank you.....

Hats off to the HHS coach for showing these young men that there is a right way to do things. I guarantee you that the Dinkels are touched.

Say what you will about the state of HHS baseball, but this shows me the right leadership is in place to teach the lessons of life and how sports lends itself to those lessons. Good luck to all of the young men and my thoughts and prayers go out to the struggling Colonel!

You'll never meet two better young men than the two that coach HHS JV, that's for sure. Please keep us all updated on this boy's condition. Although I'd prefer not to re-live such an illness again, I believe it's important to see how prayers, comfort, and sincere gentures help families, communities and teammates come together.

Jeremy Baioni and Aaron Stapleton are the JV coaches at HHS. Unfortunately this hits close to home. What a great gesture by two great and compassionate guys. Well done!

...and I thought Aaron was only a football "guru". He and JB are class acts.

What a gesture by the HHS coaches and players. It's nice to see that despite an intense rivalry between the two schools and win or lose, there is still great sportsmanship occuring. Hats off to the young birds and their coaches.

Good job Birds. Lets all keep this young man and his family in our prayers.

 

And for all the talk of the intense rivalry between the programs, I think most (admittedly not all) of the fans of the schools really respect the other program. Honestly, I would expect Highlands players and coaches to do this for a CovCath player and vice versa.
