Mike & Mike basically say Billy would be an idiot to take the UK job

Featured Replies

If he doesn't win a championship in 4 years the fire Billy threads would be up and running. I guess us UK fans and Jay Bilas are about the only ones that think this is a premier job. They say Florida will match us penny for penny and he will not have to put up with unrealistic expectations. I guess Tubby's poor last two years has labled us all as being unreasonable.

Everyone that says he'll stay at Florida forgets to calculate ego.

Every top notch college coach (and player for that matter) has some ego to them. They have to. What that means is that the lofty expectations that may scare some away are simply a challenge begging to be met for coaches.

I think the unrealistic expectations thing is getting too much play. Just like this being the year of the mid major.

I just listened to them talk about, it didn't seem like they said that at all.

I don't. It is a boil on the nose of a great program and we have brought it to the forefront with our whining and crying. It was a major factor in our being in the situation we are in. That type of thing doesn't go unnoticed.

I am an old UK fan for life, and nothing is going to change that. I will support the school and the sports teams faithfully in good times and bad. I am proud to be a UK fan and I am proud to support them. BUT I am often embarrassed to be associated with a certain percentage of the fan base.

If I were in Billy's shoes, and had the choice he has, I would stay put. And that is coming from somebody who loves UK.

What I'm trying to say though, is that you aren't Billy. I'm not. TV commentators aren't. Putting ourselves in his shoes doesn't give us the answer, because he MUST have a very different personality to be in his position. Head coaches need a big time CEO mentality, and I think Billy's got that, and for that reason, I don't think its as big a deal to HIM as it would be to you or me.

I agree with Watusi.

Tubby won 27 games a year and was forced out. There's no way around that.

Tubby also had us smack in the middle of a school history making Final Four drought, our first two Thursday appearances in the SEC tourney, Vandy's first two wins EVER in Rupp, a school record losing streak to an SEC opponent, a fourth place finish in the SEC East, the most losses over a two year non-probation period in school history, back to back finishes outside the top 25, and that still didn't get him fired.

I agree with you in that we better hope there are top notch coaches out there who won't care about the fan "involvement", starting with Mr. Donovan.

But with all due respect, that hope doesn't change any facts, and the fact is, I feel strongly it was a factor in Tubby leaving and I suspect it will be a factor any prospective coach will have to consider. To what degree, I guess we may never really know, but let's keep on hoping for the best.

It being what it is, I don't think it is getting too much press. Ignore it and it becomes the 800 lb gorilla in the corner.

Media has the task, of generating ratings and selling product. What Mike and Mike perceive, about the UK coaching job, doesn't affect me and I'm certain, the UK Athletic Department.

Opinions vary on who should be the next coach and Tuesday afternoon, may be the key to whom the choice will be.

It all comes down to the 800 lb gorilla we can't seem to recruit. There IMO is where we have fallen short. And there are a handful of folks that can change that. Billy D is one of them. Greenburg simply states what the rest of the country is wondering, "why would Donovan want to leave a place that they'll name the court after him if he stays to go coach in a place where he will forever live in the shadows of past coaches" and for similar money? I'd guess that Billy D is staying in Florida, but I have been wrong before (and sadly, Wireman has been right:D , but in this case I hope he is)

So, what is going to be the difference at Florida if Donovan would go the next 4 years without a National Championship? Do you think people won't start talking? It is not any different at UK than any other school that has had success. If Coach K had 3 more years like this past year, the Puke fans would be saying the same thing. Same for UNC, etc.

That's bull.

That's bull.
I agree, it won't take 4 years.

IMO, Billy D takes the job because.........

#1. You strike while the iron is hot.

#2. UK won't ask him again if he turns us down.

He only turns us down if he is contemplating preparing for the

NBA in a few years.

I just listened to them talk about, it didn't seem like they said that at all.

I thought the same...

I think family will play a large part in his decision. I have said several times that it won't come down to money, because both teams will pay.
