If Tubby were white and ran the same boring offense and came out with the same results and recruited just the same, he would have just as much been on the hot seat as he was..I trully don't believe the color of his skin had anything to do with it...

Becuase nobody denies style of play was a factor. We're discussing if/how much race played a role.

 

Saying if he had been white AND played faster/recruited better/gone to the final four/etc doesn't mean anything. If he had done those things he would've still been here regardless of his race.

Unfortunately this should be a different thread, however I will comment on the racism topic. Unfortunately I do witness racism in a couple of places that I visit. It is absolutely despicable. I literally get a sick feeling in my stomach watching these type of encounters especially when its so blatant.

 

While I do not see these types of actions very often, one time is way too many times to see it. None the less, YES racism is part of the hatred towards Tubby regardless of what you believe. I love this state and everything about it, but racism IS a problem. And I'm not saying its not worse anywhere else, while I'm sure it is, like I said seeing one encounter of racism is WAY too many. Absolutely sickening.

I don't think the point is that racism is the MAIN reason that Tubby was driven out, at least that's not how I feel...However, I do feel like some of the criticism he receieved was because he was African-American, and I know from first-hand conversations that many people did not like him at UK because of his race...

OK then well race did play a role! I mean when he was first hired here, the reason why alot of people didn't want him here from the very beginning was because of the color of his skin. So if he was white and won that title his first year, he would have had everyone behind him. Yet even after he won that title, you had people who didn't want him here. So if he was white and had that title, and then ended up going on that good run we had in 03 to 05 he be in great shape. Then after the last two years, yeah he would have started to get some heat, and he still might have left, but maybe he wouldn't if from the very beginning people wanted him here actually. He realized that no matter what he would do it wouldn't matter. So yeah I do believe race played a role. I admit maybe he would still be gone, but I guess we will never know...

 

Also for the fact that you admit that if he ran a faster style he would still be here, is kind of the reason why so many people hate us UK fans. On people wanting a coach it should be based only on the outcome of games. Yet you just admit if he ran a faster style he probably would still be here, because I guess people wouldn't be as hard on him. If a coach is to be gone it should just be based on the outcome of games, and shouldn't be based on well if the fans liked the style...

Yeah Coker won the title in his first year, and lost in title game the next year, and they just got worst every year, and got to the point where they were fighting other teams on the field. While Tubby yeah he won a title, then 2 seed elite 8, then 5 seed 2nd round, then 2 seed sweet 16, then 4 seed sweet 16, then number 1 overall seed in the tournament elite 8, then again number 1 seed overall in the tournament again, then 2 seed elite 8, then well you know the last two years...However they still are not the same as Cokers, Tubby after his first two years he went down a little bit, and then got us to being one of the top 3 schools in the country for 3 straight years so he didn't just keep going down like Coker. Then also Coker got fired, Tubby was not going to get fired because the AD knew Tubby was a good coach and was a great person to represent this program...Coker and Tubby is not a good comparison...

Ok did Cokers teams after his first national championship ever get back to being one of the top teams in nation???No they did not they just kept going down. Maybe it's just me But I don't feel any better about going to the Final four and Losing then getting to the elite 8 and Losing. THe Cats went from 79 to 95 without a National Title.Thats what means the most to me!:thumb:

Tubby lost 25 games his last two years there. I believe that's more than any other coach over a two game span has ever done. I'm not trying to bash Tubby. I just stating a fact there. He had that three year run which was great. I dont' think there were a lot of complaints at that time. In my opinion, if he would have made it to one final four during that time, there wouldn't have been as many complaints about him during the past two seasons. In Miami it's all about winning national championships. In Kentucky it's all about going to the final four and winning national championships. You can only live off of one for so long, as both of these coaches demonstrated.
