Rex Chapman can have a lot to say about reasons not to take the Kentucky job...

A lot more truth to that article then a lot of UK fans would want to admit to. I feel that most of the fans on BGP see things the way they really are. There was a lot of racism back 20 years ago in KY and it is maybe a little better now. I have lived in both times and from where I stand racism in KY is very much alive.

Nothing he said in the article would be reasons not to take the Ky coaching job...20 years ago, the racial dating thing was much more taboo then it is today and thats everywhere, not just in Ky.. IMO, Rex being uncomfortable during his time at UK, was Rex and nothing else.

... and from where I stand racism in KY is very much alive.

I'll second that....:thumb:

Show me somewhere it isn't?

So does that make it ok?

EXACTLY....

So does that make it ok?

Racism is not okay anywhere. The only problem I have is I believe too often the state of Kentucky get singled out for that when it is just as bad in other areas. Racism is still around, but I don't think it has any affect on the UK program.

If you think some of the criticism Tubby Smith got wasn't because he was African-American, you're either nieve, or in denial...

From Rick Bozich

Who knows what else weighed on the man and his family? When former UK athletic director C.M. Newton hired Smith from the University of Georgia to replace Pitino in 1997, it was considered a step forward in racial opportunities and relations. But if Smith's mail was like my e-mail or voice mails after particularly ugly UK defeats, there is still room for growth in that area.

I have to agree with this statement :thumb: . A lot were from the day he was announced as coach at U.K. and imo continued all through his tenior with U.K.. OTS is/was an excellent coach, a class individual and fine representative for college basketbll and the U.K. basketbll program. But he ks glne and I will support whoever may come in. First and always a U.K. fan but now a Minnesota Golden Gopher fan as well.

Nice article, I can only imagine what his wife heard every day and I believe that it was wearing on her health and we all know what Saul went through in his playing time with the Cats. Not from all but the loud minority puts a black eye on all. Most U.K. fans are NOT idiots.

I will also say though that I did not see the Rome show ( I can't stand him) I believe that Rome plays up and takes off on this kind of thing.

The best clip of a Jim Rome show that I ever saw was when the QB (Everrett believe) clocked him on air...........Brilliant, just Briliant.:p
