Think for a second about a program like Nebraska or Minnesota. Huge schools, tremendous state-wide support, not a great deal of pressure, success would be wildly celebrated, plenty of cash available (huge number of alumni in and around the state), in a big conference so TV exposure would be available. The hardest part, and it would be a challenge, is to get kids to come there. However, Nebraska has done it for Football (obviously), Volleyball, baseball, etc. Minnesota has a fantastic Hockey team, so they're used to entertaining top flight kids. To me, if I was (as described above) looking to be somewhere for 20 years -- these may be teams I'd consider.

 

And the Golden Gophers recently won the NCAA Wrestling Championship as well!

I didn't vote because I think it could be all the above except I would not have had Florida on the list. I think any of the top six you have up there could probably stake some kind of claim. By the way why would you list Florida with basketball schools?

I LOVE Kentucky hoops. But I don't believe that it is the greatest job in college hoops. Right now it would probably be UT or UF (on SEC schools). After that, I guess it depends on what you want out of a job.

If you think that UT and UF are a better job than UK I think you are taking crazy pills. At least the other schools have a claim to the best job. UT and UF don't. Florida is just on there for Donovan.

Haha I doubt he will and that wasn't the intention but if it happens to work out that way I would definately take it! It was mentioned in the article that UK was the second best job, behind UNC, so it just got me thinking....

If you are looking for prestige as a coach it will be tough to acheive there, whereas teams on either coast have the media right there to pump up their image. It's possible though.

You don't think Huggins and Knight will / have achieve(d) some level of prestige in middle America universities that have a far tougher sell? Not the state school, not statewide unilateral support, etc.

Hawaii.....Living on that island would be paradise, plus you get to coach some ball in the process.

I have really thought this through. I picked UK and here is my non-homer reasons......

If you spend 20 years at UK, it would mean that you have been VERY successful. You would have been to numerous Final Fours, won more than one NCAA Championship and won over 75% of your games. I say that because that is what a coach will have to do in todays world to stay at UK 20 years. If he did all this and stayed 20 years he would be the "King of Kentucky" for the rest of his days and would have more money than Oprah.

 

Kentucky aint easy, but do we want it any other way. I loved Tubby and still think he is a great coach by any realistic measure, but he was too good of a man to put his family and asst's through any more. Good Luck OTS.

In all seriousness, it has all the potential, power, support, yet a more managable level of pressure than the others listed have.

 

You make some good points. Again, I guess it comes down to the person being offered the job, as GT said.

 

If you have a huge ego who wants more exposure and more glory and doesn't mind the pressure, then UK would be a great choice.

 

If you want a little less pressure with a little less of the national fanbase, but still with all the tools and resources to win big, then U of L might be a better choice.

 

Those aren't the only two schools, of course, but I just used them to illustrate the point.

It may be because it is based in Kentucky but that does not mean that Kentucky isn't the best job.
