I wonder if anyone thought that maybe, just maybe the majority of folks glad to see Tubby gone are from eastern Kentucky due to the intense passion for UK basketball in this part of the state? Of all the people from around the state that I've met, NONE are as passionate about the Cats as are the folks from the eastern part of the state...especially in the mountains.

 

I take offense to the people in this thread who think that people from Eastern Kentucky are more racist simply because they are leading this pole. If you are going to make an accusation like this you're going to have to come with more than just heresay. The people in Eastern Kentucky are the most passionate Kentucky Basketball fans I know. No matter what, they always support their team.

 

I'm also completely tired of this stereotype of people from Eastern Kentucky and Appalachia in general as Hillbillies. The people in the Appalachian region are intelligent, understanding, caring people and the implication that they are more racist than anyone else in the rest of this state is unfounded and ludicrous.

 

 

I agree. It is interesting to see how little those from other parts of the state know about us, though.

When I first saw this thread, I figured that the rest of the state was going to think people from EKY are just dumb. Being considered racist never crossed my mind. Maybe they will think both about us now.

This is about a basketball coach leaving not a chance to take a cheap shot at an area of YOUR OWN STATE. So if I want Brooks gone am I also against the white race?

More members from Eastern Ky on this board than almost every where else combined.

 

More fans, as we have no other D-1 University - Louisville has Louisville, west has WKU, central has EKU, northern has Cincy and Xavier.

The finger pointing is sad. Very few people have argued that Tubby is anything but class. Thats never been the argument.

 

If you can't admit that there are valid reasons for people to dislike Tubby's coaching, you're blind. To me, this is just the Tubby supporters trying to take cheap shots at the people who thought it was time for a change.

Looks like us racist, cousin marryin', coach hatin' redneck thugs have some work to do. Those blue-bloods in Northern Kentucky and Lexington/Bluegrass are a catchin' us fast in the poll. Ol' Blue under the porch was always kinda happy with Tubby and really liked Ricky, too. When we could pick up the grainy radio signal here in the mountains, we'd all just put down our rifles and quit our feudin', pull out our corn cob pipes and jest take it real easy and listen to Cawood call the game. Considering Eastern Ky is considered the most racist area, it shouldn't come a surprise since OTS was african american. I'm in no way saying the people in here are racist, but I'm also going to tell you a large majority of the people I heard talk bad about him also used racial slurs against him.

I grew up in Eastern KY and have a lot of black friends. I like Joker Phillips at UK and liked Tubby the man. I have never been as bored as I've been the last couple of years with the lack of hustle UK played with and their chemistry. It has been flat out boring to me. That has nothing to due with being racist! Personally I think it's offensive that you stereotype Eastern KY like that. I've lived in Louisville and Lexington. There are groups of people everywhere you go no matter what part of the state you are in.

I think if you look at the super bowl and take a poll then you would have found that the majority of the people loved both Lovie and Dungy. The difference was what they were getting out of their team. Nothing to do with race.

Ah, Stick1, we need to give it a rest. We're always going to be perceived by the other groups in the state (the "Enlightened Elite") as what they think we are, no matter what. We're just banging our heads into the wall. We're always going to be the Hatfields/McCoys, Lil' Abner and the like to them. But we have taken a step up to meet the metropolitan areas. Drugs are rampant, drive by shootings are becoming a little more frequent, and sometimes, just sometimes, we think we know it all about everybody else, too!

I am from E KY and I am thrilled he is gone. You can concern me what you want to but I dont care would color the coach is as long as he doesnt lose 7 games in the conference back to back seasons and get past the round of 32 more one year in the four I have been attending UK.

Just a suggestion, but maybe a little less Red Bull would help the rest of us understand you a little better...

Something to consider on this poll...not all areas of the state are equally represented on BGP. I am sure some of the mods would know this geographic breakdown, but to say that more EKYers (or EKYians, not sure what you want to be called) than WKYers/ians wanted Tubby gone would be a skewed viewpoint if the numbers of BGPers from each region are very unequal.
