Mason County should be on top but dont count out GRC along with Scott and Campbell

After seeing both Mason County and Clark County both play, I would have never thought in a million years Clark County would beat Mason County THIS YEAR, especially not at the Fieldhouse.

I wasn't shocked that Clark Co won. They may have had some bad losses in the year. But after seeing Knowles play, I'm not surprised he just about put the team on his back in that game.

 

I was hoping that Scott could pull the upset, because after watching him in the semi-finals, I knew what he was capable of.

 

The championship loss was most frustrating because the Royals did not play their best game at all, give the Cardinals some credit for that with their defense.

 

The phrase is overused in many cases, BUT

 

"That's why they play the games." Is very true in every sport.

Several people thought just like you while others knew GRC would be a threat. After Mason beat us at GRC and without Bennett I knew we could beat the Royals...and that we did.

 

Next year the Royals will be the favorite. Not sure how the Cards will mature over the summer....only time will tell. We lose 5 seniors....hard to replace, returning 1 starter, Robert Hatton. Also hope that the injury bug doesn't strike us again next year.

 

Also , don't know what Scott lost this year...but they are always competitive.:thumb:

No shock to me this past year that GRC won as i said all year there was 1 team in the 10th that could beat Mason and it was GRC and they did.Next year in my book is a differnt story with the way all the teams in the 10th loose so much talent.I see Mason and only Mason winning next year.

1. Mason County

 

Big gap to next group

 

Clark, Scott, Campbell, maybe Montgomery

 

Next group which could produce a surprise or two

 

probably Montgomery, Harrison, Pendleton, Harrison, Brossart, Paris

I was really proud of the way we played at Lex Cath in the 5/3, without Jones and Stenzel was not supposed to play. Knowles stayed with the trainers alot, cut eye and thumb. I didn't expect us to win the first game, but we made it to the semi's. Proved to be very valuable ot our suporting cast.

 

I agree with mhighfield, Mason should be above all the rest, but we never know who will mature over the summer. As always I look forward to another great season in the 10th.

I agree that you never know how kids will mature over the summer and from year to year. It was 17 long years before GRC made it back to the big dance at the boys sweet 16. With 1,650 kids roaming the halls at Clark County, there has got to be some athletes hidden. There is no way IMO that it should be that long of a gap before a school that size make it to the state tournament. To make it to the sweet 16, there are several things that has to happen in your favor. Where is all the athletes amongst that estimated number above located at GRC?

Scott lost all five starters and IMO.... they lost a ton.

Would agree that Scott lost a whole lot but JV team appeared to be competitive. I don't think that they have a player with Sharps scoring ability at the JV level. Coach Carr will have them playing hard regardless of expectations. If they can add a scorer/ballhandler to current soph class they can make another run in a couple of years.

And have two key reserves returning

Keith Downing Jr

 

They will also get contributions from

Ryan Hamm Jr

Westin Stahl Jr

 

Should be a GREAT year for the Royals.
