Mason County was a prime example in Football for years the best athletes wouldn't come out for it until Coach Buchanan come and change things around.

Clark County is like 2 of Mason County in the enrollment at the high school, that is approximately another 800 kids. They should be making state tournament appearances like they were back in the 80's. No way 17 years apart. Wonder if Humphries will be in contact with the football coach and be the difference maker if we are talking about Buchanan was able to go over the top with multi sport athletes at Mason. My guess is kids don't want to put forth the effort, if a school has around 1700 enrollment, they are not all concentrating on one sport.

I know enrollment is a factor but in the 16th region ,Ashland has 1013 and Boyd Co has 980 students in the top 4 grades and Elliott Co has 536 students in the top 6 grades. Also ,some schools don't have the best instructors (coaches) and this sure doesn't help the high school program. There's a lot of factors involved on why and why not.

Im not so sure about that there accomplishments speak for themselves,Either we will be loaded for at least the next 5 years.When i say top 3 i mean top 3 classes to come through Mason county so far not what there going to accomplish,Because we dont know that yet im saying through there 8th grade seasons.:thumb:

 

I know what you mean by top 3. I know for a fact that Mason County's sophomore class never lost a game in middle school (WITHOUT Russ Middleton) and their AAU team was runner-up in the state a few times. The class of 2005 only lost two games in middle school and also had a state AAU runner-up. The class of 2004 won at least one state AAU title, competed nationally (4th place?) and I am pretty sure that they went undefeated in middle school as well. This is just in the past few years. This incoming freshman class may be good, but there have been many GREAT classes come through Mason County. They would be lucky to be top 10 in my mind.

I was speaking of some schools not having good coaches in the grade school and jr high and it sets them back a couple of years and makes it hard for the varsity and jr varsity coaches. They have to catch those kids up to where they should be.

Drew Lykins can shoot but is too slow to play Mason County Defense. Hamm will contribute mostly off the bench because of his lack of size and strength but will play a major role in the success of the Royals.

 

You might be right but from what I saw in JV this past year both can be contributers. And if Hamm gets stronger he should see some time
