Could UF match money with UK????

Featured Replies

I could be mistaken...I'm honestly not sure. I'd say they had to be close, considering they find a way to get 23,000 people to go to a midnight madness .
They didn't.

They didn't.

Since you are so positive...care to provide a link? I'm curious how many were at each game.

There is absolutely zero question that the could. Would they? That's a question, although in MY opinion, just because it's Kentucky they'll pony up the cash.

If Donovan comes to Kentucky, it's not because he couldn't cash in at Florida. Just my thoughts on the matter.

I agree.

A higher revenue? They seat 12,000 at their games and don't sell out even half of the OOC games, while UK seats 23,000 and sells out every game. I've heard this before, but for some reason I find it hard to believe. I think UK could offer just as much money as UF....
Wrong.

For one thing, UK's athletic department is less profitable than Florida's. For another, your base assumption is wrong- even though UK has a very profitable basketball program, football still pays the bills. So if football pays the bills, which school do you think clears the bills better, Florida or Kentucky?

Money will not be an issue with either school.

I know UK's boosters would be shelling out millions if they thought that was the deciding factor in getting Donovan. Didn't a UK booster give upwards of $20 million recently for the new practice facility?

The bidding could start as early as Sunday..........

Either way this is for sure.

Donovan will be the highest paid college basketball coach in America next year.

We can offer more money to Donovan than Florida could ever dream of. If it comes down to a bidding war we will win.

Florida has more money to offer, but won't. Urban Meyer must be the highest paid coach at the school. They won't give Meyer a raise just to keep Billy D. IMO....

Florida has three top 10 sports paying the bills. Baseball, football and basketball. Their football stadium is one of the largest in the country and sells out every game. KY might have the boosters to shed out the cash, but when it comes to athletic departments, Florida is head and shoulders above KY.

Plus you have to think about the money the NCAA gives the school for winning a national championship on top of the revenue they're getting from the games of the final 4.

Take a look at this link for the 2004-2005 NCAA financial reports...

When you look at Florida and UK, don't just look at the revenue sheet, make sure to check out the expense sheet as well...

Now how far ahead is Florida's athletic department again???

About 2 Million a year... Over ten years that's almost a 20 million dollar difference. That's quite a bankroll.

Also don't forget that the UK Athletic fund also gives a cool mil back to the University general budget each year.

And how many alumni would gladly write checks to cover the difference??? Also, notice the sharp difference in revenue between the two schools' football and basketball teams versus their expenses. UK can and would beat ANY offer Florida would care to offer Billy simply because they are a football school and won't want to risk PO'ing Meyer...kind of a reverse of the legend of why Bear Bryant left Kentucky. Florida will ALWAYS be a football first school. After working around him at Marshall, IMO, Billy doesn't want to be second fiddle to anyone...

Keep telling yourself that. If that makes you feel better. UF is making about twice as much money (profit) as UK is right now...add to that the recent football championship and another Final Four run..it could add more to the list.
