March 27, 200719 yr Budget surplus: Florida: $3,873,730 Kentucky: $2,073,943 A difference of: $1,799,787 From the expenses: Florida basketball salaries: $1,942,035 Kentucky basketball salaries: $2,560,346 A difference of $618,311 So if Florida were to just MATCH what UK was paying Tubby, the budget difference drops to $1,181,476. Another way to look at it is this: Florida has $5,815,765 to play with for salaries Kentucky has $4,634,289 Thats looking at the athletic department as a whole. Switching to basketball only, Florida has revenues of $6,747,311 with a surplus of $1,872,782. Kentucky has revenues of $13,744,749 with a surplus of $7,396,585
March 27, 200719 yr Keep telling yourself that. If that makes you feel better. UF is making about twice as much money (profit) as UK is right now...add to that the recent football championship and another Final Four run..it could add more to the list. UF = football school...no way they pay basketball as much as football let alone more. Not being able to sell out a 13,000 seat arena coming on the heels of a national championship says all you need to know about Florida and the priorities of their fans...

They will buck up....bet on that...you may not want them to...but they will.
March 27, 200719 yr They will buck up....bet on that...you may not want them to...but they will. And what do they tell Urban??? Florida is football first...I'm not saying Billy is coming...it's not a done deal, but from all my sources, it may as well be. Whether he comes to UK, goes to the Miami Heat or stays put, I don't see UF ponying up the cash to make him the highest paid coach on campus. What makes you think they would be willing to pay their basketball coach more than their football coach when the team doesn't draw a full house after winning the national championship?

What makes you think they would be willing to pay their basketball coach more than their football coach when the team doesn't draw a full house after winning the national championship? Do you honestly think Urban Meyer is going to care about not being paid as much if Florida wins back to back national championships? Get real. If Urban were having as much success he'd expect the same exact thing.
March 27, 200719 yr I think if Brooks left and UK had a shot for Urban Meyer they would pay what they needed to get him, even if it matched the b-ball coaches.
March 27, 200719 yr I think the UF is willing to pay both top $$$$ so they can boast that they rule the top 2 sports in the nation...

If Urban were having as much success he'd expect the same exact thing. Yes, I do...big time coaches have big time egos...and that's as real as it gets...PERIOD.
March 27, 200719 yr Not only do I think they have it, I think they spend it... :walk: Billy is getting a big fat raise...:sssh: How smart does Billy Donovan look now after declining to "cash in" on his big season last year? Talk about cashing in...whether he goes or stays...he'll be the highest paid coach in college hoops next year, IMO.
March 27, 200719 yr It maybe for only a year or two, but he will be the highest paid coach next year.
March 27, 200719 yr I'm not getting into a debate about how much each school's profit margin is. I just think that with UK's obsession with basketball and the need to make a big splash with their new coach, that if it comes down solely to a bidding war, they will be willing to offer more than Florida will. That doesn't mean Florida can't pay it or doesn't have the money...I just think UK will be willing to spend more. I could be wrong. If Donovan stays at Florida, I certainly think he will be well compensated, but I think it will have more to do with him being happy where he's at, instead of Florida outbidding UK.

I agree, I don't think money is the biggest issue, because he knows he is going to get paid either way...
March 27, 200719 yr No one but no one could or would out spend UK on a basketball coach period. They would put donation baskets on every street corner in the state if necessary and poeple would fill them up.They would sell Frankfort, steal the gold from Ft.Knox before being out bid by another school. NO WAY.
