Hammonds had a horrible game against Fairdale. He was 1/10 shooting. Proffitt was cluch as always. This was the best I had seen Smith play. SL doesn't get a lot of offense most of the time out of the other 12 players.

Poor Shooting. Both Holmes and Tilghman put on one of the worst shooting displays in state tournament history last night. I think at one time they were something like 31/105 combined.

 

And who the heck said Holmes had NO experience? I said South had the edge in experience. South has played 7 Sweet 16 games since 2005.

 

1st game jitters and even though South has that many games, they were exposed last year vs. Graves Co. There is a way to beat the 1-3-1 trap defense and the little 6 footer for Graves found baseline layup after layup. I can only imagine the alley oops Holmes willd drop on them if they can get it through the top 3 defenders.

 

I think Proffit gets a ton in this game with his excellent shooting but Holmes will have a chance to go coast to coast against a slower SL team.

I would agree with this assessment. The speed and athleticism will give South Laurel problems. Holmes will also have to creat some turnovers.

South will fool you sometimes. It looks as though they can be easily disected, but when you get on the floor with them things change. Holmes will have to make some good decisions. South is not a team to be taken lightly. They have won a couple of AAU championships in addition to the 2005 crown. Do not be surprised to see the Cards advance. They might be the biggest, strongest team left in the tourney.

But as far as the AAU statement goes, The kids from Holmes have made their name through AAU with the NKY TarHeels. EVERYONE knows about them. And their specialty was always going up against bigger teams and using their athleticism to expose their weakness: Tempo. Holmes will wear South's big men down.

 

And I think Scott Co would have somethign to say about being the biggest and strongest team as well.

South has the experience, Profitt, Hammonds, and Smith were VERY key players in the Championship team. If Hammonds can come out and have a good game then South will win, Profitt will have a good game no matter what, but what will decide this game is Hammonds...

Holmes' athleticism will be too much for South Laurel ... from watching the Cardinals, it doesn't seem like there are enough basketballs to go around.

If South Laurel plays selfishly, they lose. If Proffitt can set the others up for some good looks, South has a good shot at winning this game.

Proffit won't be shut down, you can only hope to contain him.

AAU mean's nothing, and the TarHeels weren't even an all Holmes team. Arrez didn't even play for them.

Hill and Henderson both played on the Shining Stars in the summer not tarheels.:thumb:

Good shooting and experience (South Laurel) vs poor shooting and athleticism (Holmes). Its a toss up.

 

I guess poor shooting and athleticism win out...

Proffit won't be shut down, you can only hope to contain him.
