Well, now, I must say that I believe that Ovinton, after six years of limelight which included twice all-state in Kentucky, three times all-state and twice Mr. Basketball in Ohio, Mr. Basketball in West Virginia, and national player of the year, ended his remarkable career in a quite appropriate way with an elegant dunk followed by throwing the ball up in the stands to the HHS fans. It added an exclamation mark, as if one were needed, as we came to the end of the saga and of the game. I wholeheartedly approve. Like it or not, and I'm sure many of you didn't and don't, it is unlikely that we will see in this part of the country such a talent during the remainder of our lifetimes. He's the best I ever saw in person and, if most are honest, they must say the same.

Actualy Mayo had plenty of opportunites to score easily all tournament and passed it up, he is a great passer.

I have found one consistency in the six years of Mayo debate on BGP. Those who don't know him and who have never come into contact with him are the ones who find fault with him. I cannot remember seeing a negative post about him from anyone who actually knows him.

 

I would submit that that is a significant fact.

You may blindly post about him like he never makes a mistake, and that is certainly your right. But an unbiased person, maybe one with limited or no contact to be leaning toward or against him, may be better suited to post honestly. I have had limited contact with OJ Mayo but the facts remain that he has been suspended from school at two different schools, kicked out of games and likes to hang out with drug users if not dealers. Yes, he is a great 19 year old talent but that alone does not mean that he needs to be talked about like he is a great ingredient to his community, his actions clearly show that he is not. Unless you are looking for a twice suspended, multi technical foul and follower of people who break the law as a role model.

I watched every game in the tournament and he wont ride the pine lol. And it was for hanging on the rim they called it, the ref was onto him all game, they didnt like him. But this team did put on a show, and the way they played int he tourney no KY team could have beat them. Patterson was the leading scorer the first game. WV tournament is awesome, I have been to Kentucky and WV and WV is so fun, you would be suprised, I seen alot of Kentucky folks at the games.

 

I also watched the game and they T'd him up for throwing the ball in the stands. He threw himself a lob off the backboard from about 35 feet, dunked it then threw the ball in the stands. Great play classless act. IMO

If you want to act like that Mayo has been a model citizen the last few years then there is no reason to argue with you. He has done a lot of stupid things. That being said hes a teenager who I am sure is surrounded with the wrong type of people he needs influencing him. Maybe the best thing in the world is to get far away from here and the negative influences in his life.

 

As for Huntington, they were beat at full strength in Kentucky. So they are definitly not invincible. WVA just doesnt have many other good teams at all.

They don't win the Sweet 16 in Kentucky, because they would have to play better teams night in and night out.

Heresay? Prejudice? Now you are just being way off base. Fact: OJ Mayo was suspended at the North College Hill school he was attending. Fact: OJ Mayo was suspended at HHS this year. Fact: OJ Mayo was given two technical fouls, pre-flop, and thrown out of a game this year. Fact: OJ Mayo is in a car circling a crack house with pot in the car. Fact: OJ Mayo is given a technical is his last high school game. This is not heresay, this is all fact. And if you are calling me out on here as being prejudiced then you and I have serious issues. You may not agree with me, I certainly don't agree with you, but do not make this personal and make any allegations that I may be prejudiced in any way, shape or form. Clear on that?

My information I have been posting on have been from the newspapers as well but to some on here that is not reliable I guess. Your post brings up an excellent point; why was he still in the game at that point? Patterson was already out of the game. The only reason I can see to keep him in is to give him more chances to show up the other team, lots of class involved in that one.

I stand by my posts. I will agree that Mayo needs to be more careful in regard to whom he runs around with because each incident probably costs him a couple of million dollars somewhere down the line. It doesn't matter whether he is directly involved or not, the real news is never the incident but the fact that he was present.

 

Nonetheless, I will continue to support him just as others will continue to trash him. I suppose it could be called "leveling the playing field".
