Seniors who were held back

Do you have the same effect on your thermostat too?

No! I have a different effect on thing's! My wife had a nice supper fixed up on the stove. I walked by my thermostat, and the light bulb over the range exploded sending shard's of glass all in the bean's and tater's, mac&cheese, kraut&weiner's. Needless to say I was the only one in the fam, who would eat it. Stomache's been boiling and growling every since!!:creepy:

As a Parent I think it is left to those parents who wanta hold their kids back and for what reason,Maybe Grades or maybe they wanta see him grow as a person, but we all must realize that, and what most dont understand is they are STUDENT/Athlete's,and that's what its all about,we all dont make the right decisions all the time ,and i must say parenting is hardest job any of us have but we have to make the best call we can when it comes to our KIDs,cause thats what its all about is the KIDs...just my opinion....

I'm just going to hate to see some of these basketball teams that have a squad full of 19 year olds playing for the state title. There are some cases where there are kids who are 14-15 years old who are exceptional at what they do, but I have a hard time believing that a team full of 14-15-16 year olds can compete with a team full of 18-19 year olds. Physically, I don't see it happening. I know for a fact that in the next ten years we will see a team that will field at least three 19 year olds(unless they get burnt out by their AAU team before high school) that will be be seniors for their high school team. I have already told one of the parents that they have no excuse to not win state. He told me, "we won't be the only team with at least 3-19 year olds on it." I just hate to think that when I was growing up 18-19 year olds were freshmen and sophomores in college not juniors and seniors in high school. I find it hard to believe that my parents' generation had it all wrong and should have held us all back while the next generation has it right to hold their kids back as many times as they can within the rules for whatever reason. Bottom line is, if the kid is good enough for a scholarship, he/she will get it regardless. I sure wish folks in BG would have held their kids back so we could actually be better in basketball.

O.J. Mayo, the poster boy for being held back, had a triple double last night in the state championship game. He reportedly had a play where he threw the ball off the backboard at the free throw line and dunked it similar to what Tracy McGrady has done at least twice. Amazing play to see during live play, except that after he completed the unbelievable play, he tossed the ball into the stands and earned a technical. Didn't matter though, O.J. Huntington High still won 100 something 60 something. I wish he could could go straight to the pros so we could see how he does against folks his own age.

Patterson had 14 points and some rebounds.

And as far as the whole maturity reason for holding kids back, has anyone wondered if those kids seem more mature because they are simply bored and have no one their own age to relate too?

^ I totally agree with both of your posts and OJ is the posterboy for the problem. He will be 20 before his first college game. What was the point in holding him back? It is obvious he is much more ahead of his peers at the same age and with his only goal being to play in the NBA it actually cost the chance of going pro early. If he would have graduated two years ago, as he could have, he would have been in the last class that could turn pro out of college. I know there are 14-15-16 year olds that have the talent and physcial ability to compete with 19 year olds but that group is rare and not the norm. I really believe that a 19 year old should not be allowed to play in any high school sport that starts after he/she turns 19. If the player in question turns 19 in October that would make them eligible to play football, soccer, volleyball or run cross country but they could not play basketball, baseball, softball or run track. It may solve some of the problems of parents holding back to get the player an edge in a particular sport and this would only affect those who would have been 18 and graduating anyway, not 17 year old players being held back for a year. Seems more fair to me, but I am sure that there are many who disagree but honestly isn't it more fair to hold a 17 year old back one year and have them graduate at 18 than hold back someone who is already 18 and have them graduate at 19?

Chapter 39 , problem solved!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wish he could could go straight to the pros so we could see how he does against folks his own age.
Somehow, I think Mayo would hold his own with all the other 19-20 year-olds in the League...

He'll be a poster boy alright, but not for some sad disability or failure...

^ Only if he can improve on those that he chooses to hang with and can stop escalating the trouble that he seems to get into, examples, getting suspended at two schools, getting thrown out of a game (the flop by the ref was after the second technical) and hanging out with drug users while circling a crack house. These are not allegations, facts, and he is not a minor, a 19 year old adult who should know much better by now.

I've read and a lot of people have a lot of different opinions on hold backs. From my own personal experience, I played my last high school basketball game when I was 17 years old. I was fortunate enough to receive a basketball scholarship to a division 1 college. I got better and better each year I played. I was best when I was a senior in college. I wish my father would have held me back one year . I know I would have been better as a senior in high school and a better college player. By the way ,I coached 21 years of high school ball and the boys that were held back turned out to be great high school players as some did that weren't held back. This is from my own personal experience. One could argue this point until you were blue in the face and not solve anything. I started coaching at 21 years of age and had players that were 18. Still had their respect. :ylsuper:

I just noticed Kansas has a 24 year old junior named Kaun playing today, and

I don't see Meeks, Jasper, or any other 19-20 year old Kentucky player whining about it

I doubt if Kaun gets player of the game

^ Some have a personal reason to love holdbacks more than others.

I believe that some have personal reasons to support holdbacks more than others, hmmm?
