Seniors who were held back

Featured Replies

I'm a Duke fan so I guess I'll use this opportunity to say that maybe UK should try to get more kids who aren't holdbacks and maybe they can compete at the level their fans are accustomed to. Doesn't look like the holdbacks helped you guys out so much.

What was that? I'm sorry, I quit reading it as soon as I saw " I'm a Duke fan". LOL!!!:D :D  Just kidding!!

^ Only if he can improve on those that he chooses to hang with and can stop escalating the trouble that he seems to get into, examples, getting suspended at two schools, getting thrown out of a game (the flop by the ref was after the second technical) and hanging out with drug users while circling a crack house. These are not allegations, facts, and he is not a minor, a 19 year old adult who should know much better by now.

If he hangs out with his NBA teammates he's probably in the "wrong crowd".

It's all good. As long as I have been a fan of the unnamed university that was mentioned, one thing I have learned to take in stride is ribbing from UK fans.:argue:

I do live in KY so I have a big target on my back when some of my articles of clothing spell a word and not an abbreviation.

good luck next year, it'd be nice to play against you guys again.:flame: :flame: :flame: :flame: :flame: :flame:

If you took some of the holdbacks and moved them up to their rightful class, they would not be considered elites in that particular class. IE, an average soph now that has been heldback, would be a less than average junior if you put them with their rightful age class had they not been held back a year. In some cases, it works out, in others the advantage is only temporary as the other players pass them up as they mature.

What I get from this qoute above is that you are saying that all the soph's right now that are old enough to be juniors, we would not think that they are as good if they were in there junior years playing the same way that they do right now. That we think that they are better than they are because they are soph's. I think that no matter what class these kids are they would be elites. Lets say that the faulkners from elliott were seniors. I dont think that people would be saying that they are not as good as the other seniors or that they are not elite players for seniors. IMO it doesnt matter what class you are in, If you are an elite player then you are an elite player as a varsity player, not because you are an elite player just in the 11 grade class or just in the 10grade class. This is just My opinion though.

Good point. A bunch of juniors headed to Rupp for the first time in school history would obviously be under achievers in some folk's eyes.
I hope no one has been offended by this thread. I was simply curious due to a highly publicized event that occured in a town near where I live and did not know how often this was done. From the amount of posts it seems that people are passionate on both sides of the picture. In the end it is into your own heart you must look as far as why was my child held back. It would be hard to justify to myself if it was purely for an atheletic advantage.I raised my children to play fair even if it means defeat. That even in defeat you learn. I guess that greed in this day and age of the million dollar contracts has permeated into the deepest roots of sports and corrupted even our children.

I hope no one will be offended , but the word athletic could be spelled wrong, and the word premeated is not in the dictionary.

Did'nt take the time to read the whole thread but heard in lucasville, at valley middle there are 3 sets of parents whose kids make fine grades who are holding their kids back so they can play sports with a hot shot group of 7th graders. What I would dearly love to see is basketball and football go to an age based system something similiar to LL baseball. I'm sick of seeing held back kids dominate kids who have not been held back. This is most unfair in football, esp if the 7-8 grade teams play together. Some kid who should be a 9th grader gets to demolish a 7th grader. I'm for age groups in sports and doing away with competetion based on your school grade. Maybe this would stop some of this nonsense. Larry Bird

^ Would be a great idea since so many parents seem to as of late make these kids stay back a year for sports instead of grades, social developement or maturity issues.

permeate-to pass into and affect every part of; penetrate and pass through.

Maybe johnboy could have used an extra year in seventh grade

Let's knock off the insults about spelling and grammar.

This falls under Rule 2, and is not necessary.
