Yes it is definitely an advantage playing on a home court. I am for all post season past the districts be on neutral sites.

Again in a perfect world all post season games would be on a neutral court. And yes GRC deserved to win. They were the better team.

I had an interesting conversation this weekend regarding this topic, and the prevailing opinion was that its a sizable advantage to the home teams for a variety of reasons. Someone pointed out however, that for the most part few regional games are played at a participating team's home court in Ohio?? Not sure if this is accurate, but would be an interesting comparison if true? It does seem the Cincy teams are always heading to Dayton or Columbus to play regional games?? Thoughts??

Not sure Phillip skipped any math classes, no matter where he graduated from? 90% winning ratio is actually 90 out of 100 games= 9-1 (9 out of 10), while 75% winning ratio is 75 out of 100= 7.5-1 (7,5 out of 10) as he stated. Any way you slice it, its an advantage to play at home!!

If it meant traveling to get to a neutral site I would be all for it. If the 16th region wasn't played at MSU I think it would be logical and just as convenient geographically than NKU.

Tournament time is not a time to be improving odds for the same team year in and year out.

Although I disagree with Mason Co. being the only place in the 10th region to hold the tournament I do agree with the rest of your post. Mason Co. has had some teams in recent years that would have won the tourny on a dirt court by the river somewhere, and I for one don't dispute that. On the other hand this doesn't mean that it is okay for them to host it tournament every year. I can't speak for everyone in the 10th Region but my opinion on this has absolutely nothing to do with Mason Co. and I have a lot of respect for their program, but I don't believe that it should be all about money like it is in the 10th region. Like I said before all the regions in the state that don't have a neutral site rotate the regional tournament which means that from year to year they may not make as much money. The 14th region for example is not going to make as much money when the region is at Breathitt Co. as apposed to Perry Central or Knott Co.

The 14th rotates the tournament between 6 sites and it has worked out fairly well with a few exceptions. Knott Central seats 5,000 (300 seats less than Mason's Fieldhouse, so they're comparable in size), but the 14th decided many years ago to use a rotation system. We have never considered using only one school, to my knowledge. My only disagreement with our present plan is I feel a facility should be able to seat at least 3,500, and two of our gyms in the rotation seat less than 3,000.

My proposal for the 14th Policy Board when they are updating and discussing the rotation in the future is:

 

(1) Demand that a facility has to seat at least 3,500 in order to host the regional tournament.

 

(2) Change the rotation from a 6 year plan to a 4 year plan, and base it on allowing at least one of the schools in each district to host the tournament (if they can meet the 3,500 seating guideline that I have suggested). When it is each district's turn to host, the member schools of that particular district will vote where they want it held in their district. This way, all four districts and all sections of the region will have the tournament in a four year plan.

 

The four choices in the 14th would more than likely be: 53rd Knott Central, 54th Perry Central, 55th Breathitt County, and 56th Powell County. It's fair, and all sections of the region is covered.

I remember last year or a couple years ago people were complaining that holding the 16th region at MSU was home court advantage for Rowan County, They wanted to have the games moved to Boyd County Middle School or somehwere up there. When Rowan Co. lost this year it was the 5th time in 6 years they've lost in the 1st round. I would think moving it to the BCMS would def be home court advantage for Ashland. But on the other hand, Rowan Co. fans don't support thier teams much, there was alot more East fans in the areana this year and I would imagine tonight that there will be a big sea of Marroon on both sides.

 

No homecourt advantage for Rowan. They don't play or practice at MSU and their fans do not buy up all the tickets. In the championship game it looked like an Elliott County home game. I would bet over 2,000 of the 3100+ that were in attendance were from Elliott which is pretty amazing considering the size of the schools involved.

Ask Bell County about the home court advantage thing. I'm sure they will say that it helped Corbin out last night in the 13th! Any other court I think Bell would of won by double digits. It would be nice in a fantasy world for all of them to be held at a local college gym or somewhere like the 15th has, the new Expo Center, great place for the tourney. But they way it is now will have to do, someone in most regions will always have a little bit of an advantage.

But it should not be the same team year, after year after year.

At some places it is an advantage, at others its not, play cov. cath at cov cath and it is a huge disadvantage where as playing at a place like Holmes, Other than the bulldogs knowing the gym, its like playin on a neutral court.
