I wonder if Tates Creek would just come to our place tomorrow night? Why should we drive all the way to Richmond? It's been scientifically proven that the better team will win anyway - by GRC pulling it off yesterday, so what difference should it make to Coach Covington where we play?

The homecourt advantage has not translated into very many regional titles in the 13th region lately. I think that it is less of an advantage in the postseason as opposed to the regular season.

 

Who was the last 13th region team to win the title on their home floor? Maybe Clay Co. in 1998?

Homecourt is an advantage. In the 16th, played at MSU no one can shoot well, apparently due to the wide open spaces behind the goals. The extra 10 feet does work to the quicker, more fit team's advantage.

I would like to explain to everyone that if your team hosts the regional tournament no matter what region you are in then they have a homecourt advantage. An advantage does not mean a guarantee... A lot of people on here are getting really defensive thinking that just because Mason Co. hosts (which I believe to be the best and only place) the 10th regional tournament that should win it every year. And everyone from Mason Co. is saying that just because they lost it this year to Clark Co. proves they dont have an advantage. If you practice in a gym everyday and play games on that floor throughout the year than yeah you have an advantage. But my point is that just because you have a homecourt advantage does not mean you have a guarantee win.

All regional chapionship games in my opinon should be played @ a neutral site

I remember last year or a couple years ago people were complaining that holding the 16th region at MSU was home court advantage for Rowan County, They wanted to have the games moved to Boyd County Middle School or somehwere up there. When Rowan Co. lost this year it was the 5th time in 6 years they've lost in the 1st round. I would think moving it to the BCMS would def be home court advantage for Ashland. But on the other hand, Rowan Co. fans don't support thier teams much, there was alot more East fans in the areana this year and I would imagine tonight that there will be a big sea of Marroon on both sides.

I would have to agree with you on this URIT. To hear everyone else just because it is at Mason it is a sure thing that the Royals win it every year. Hmmmm does not look like that has happened. And I am talking about more than just this year.

 

Time for another history lesson.....

The 10th has been at Mason from 1966 to the present with the exception of 1969 when Clark County was host. Mason County won their first region title in 1981. One other point to take into consideration. Mason County has won 11 region titles. 7 of those were post consolodation with Maysville.

 

My only question would be if the homecourt advantage is such a major factor, why did it take Mason County 14 years to win the 10th region on their floor?

I will answer my own question. Because there were better teams than them.

 

I am not saying that it has not helped but not to the degree that everyone has made it out to be.

Although I disagree with Mason Co. being the only place in the 10th region to hold the tournament I do agree with the rest of your post. Mason Co. has had some teams in recent years that would have won the tourny on a dirt court by the river somewhere, and I for one don't dispute that. On the other hand this doesn't mean that it is okay for them to host it tournament every year. I can't speak for everyone in the 10th Region but my opinion on this has absolutely nothing to do with Mason Co. and I have a lot of respect for their program, but I don't believe that it should be all about money like it is in the 10th region. Like I said before all the regions in the state that don't have a neutral site rotate the regional tournament which means that from year to year they may not make as much money. The 14th region for example is not going to make as much money when the region is at Breathitt Co. as apposed to Perry Central or Knott Co.

I don't think most on here think its a huge factor,they just want the many Mason fans to acknowledge that it is an advantage even if only a small one at times.Most are not like you and will admit there is such a thing as homecourt advantage.The best team on that day wins but several things make them the best team and one of the things is playing on you're home court,although that does not always produce the winner,as we witnessed yesterday.Clark was the best yesterday and if the game was on another floor the margin of victory could have been more or less,who knows?If Mason fans would admit there is such a thing then this topic would be over and done with.:thumb:
