It was Duke, but the way UK is falling off before long it will be Eastern Kentucky.

 

Rivalries have to go both ways...UK was NEVER a rival to Duke. It's very one-sided with UK fans. Duke fans can care less about UK.

I'm very old school. so with Tennessee showing improvement with each year I would have to go with them. As far as the Florida arguement,it's not much of a rivalry we beat them like 5 or 6 straight now they're returning the favor.

Don't forget North Carolina, since they are the two most winning teams in college basketball. Rivalries are hard to maintain for extended periods. I would have said Louisville but the games of late have not been in question Ky has dominated. I think Louisville will step back up to the plate however in the next few years.

I voted Florida because I voted with the mindset that we are speaking of presently.

 

But for an all-time biggest rival I would vote UofL with IU a close second.

It is not a rival if both schools don't feel that way. Duke fans don't even care about KY.

 

I would say U of F because in the same conference. I hope the Kitty cat reference heats it up more..

You guys are acting like I think it's IU. I voted for Louisville, it's a public poll go ahead and look. I agree with you, until we can consistently beat UK we're not the rival.

 

But you can't consistently beat Florida so the same argument goes back, and that's what I was saying.

No, I am not acting like you think it is IU. You also cannot consistently beat a team and consider them your rival. The wins have to go both ways. That is what makes it great. Packing in almost 25,000 in Rupp proves to me who the rival is.

I can't believe that Duke is currently 3rd in this thing no matter how distant it is. Especially with U.T. at "0" right now. :eek:

Id have to go with L'Ville since Pitino is there and it is in-state.

This is what is sad about some UK fans. One shot 15 years ago does not make a rivalry.

I think louisville is UK biggest rival but looking at UK biggest threat is another ballpark

It was eight,but now UF has won the next six. Coach Smith still has a 12-10 lead on Billy the Kid.

I lived before 1992. Before that, Duke was just the team UK beat in '78 to win #5. That East Region final in Philadelphia hurt me just like every other UK fan, but it was 1 game. I enjoyed the comeback win in '98 throughly, but again, it was just 1 game. I can't get worked up over Duke. I don't consider them a rival and of the Duke grads I know, they could care less about UK. North Carolina is their #1 rival.

 

Before 1983 I always considered UT and IU as rivals. Erie Grunfeld and Bernard King were the players I despised. I took a History 101 final at UK and the Indiana game was on for viewing during the test. IU's only loss between the fall of 1974 and the fall 1976 was to UK.

 

However, I remember the 1975 final four and Wesley Cox missing that free throw that would have put the Cards over UCLA and the national final game between Kentucky and Louisville. I think practically the whole state was in San Diego for that finals just in anticipation of that very possibility. Then in '83 came the finals of the Mid-East Region and the first meeting between the Cats and the Cards since 1959. Lemasters shot to put the game into overtime. Louisville running away in the overtime. :irked: From that point on, beating UofL once a year and doing better than UofL has always ment more to me than what UK does verses any other school.

I think Terry Howard missed the free throw against UCLA. Also, that was Jim Master who hit the shot in 1983 to send the game into overtime.

Florida is UK's biggest rival because they are in the same division of the same conference and UK must face them at least two times each year.

 

Louisville is second although we don't seem to compete with Louisville for players and they are not in the same conference. Pitino fuels this rivalry right now.
