February 27, 200719 yr My points at the time were valid. He was also proved human by Mr. Dewalt. I don't think it was DeWalt as much as it was that Maresca kid who could not miss from the baseline that night.
February 27, 200719 yr Chris Lofton gets my vote but Byars is close behind. Both great players and very deserving of the award.
February 27, 200719 yr I don't think it was DeWalt as much as it was that Maresca kid who could not miss from the baseline that night. I agree, DeWalt had four points. Warren Central was lucky to get past CovCath and then went unconcious against Mason Co from three point land. Let's not forget, in the morning session, Mason Co. and Scott Co. played a classic game that went into OT and exposed the Royals lack of depth in the tournament that year.
February 27, 200719 yr After looking at the numbers I'd have him at #2... You can't go wrong with either guy. The reason I give the nod to Byars is I believe Lofton has more around him than Byars does. Both Smiths, Crews, and Chism are all talented players. And Bradshaw does a great job. Vandy was no where close to being ranked before the season, while Tennesee was a top 25 team I believe. Vandy has Byars and Foster and no one else I would consider to be all that good (even though the rest of the guys play their tails off). As for Lofton, I really like him. Hes exciting to watch, but he did miss a portion of the SEC games. I think that hurts him a little bit.
February 27, 200719 yr Lofton and Byars are both worthy choices. I'll reverse LogMountainBoy's logic and go with Lofton. We can only surmise what the loss of Byars would do to the Commodores; but we KNOW how the loss of Lofton affected the Vols.
February 28, 200719 yr But they look awful now, and your case for Byars is funny looking back. Dewalt was proven pretty human by life. Weak... What does what happened to Dewalt after the fact have to do with anything. I was speaking of Mr. Dewalts defense on Lofton in the game for those with other comments of him. Lofton couldnt do nearly as much with Dewalt on him. Because Byars brought his team from being way out of the rankings to the top 20 and UT has fallen out of it I appear biased. An MVP often helps their team rise above. Byars fits that bill. Kudos to Lofton and co. for bringing down a reeling Florida team tonight. We all know where the reeling began though...
February 28, 200719 yr We all know where the reeling began though... Against UK. What's your point???
February 28, 200719 yr Against UK. What's your point??? Debatable. UK was helped by foul trouble on UF's bigs. A good team plays bad and gets out with a win. Then they win against Bama. The first loss of the bunch came to Vandy.

February 28, 200719 yr They started playing bad against UK. I know you saw it the same as I did. Yes UF left Rupp with a win, but it wasn't a result of playing well... It was the result of getting a couple of calls against their bigs and UK playing some pretty good defense.
February 28, 200719 yr It was the result of getting a couple of calls against their bigs and UK playing some pretty good defense. UF came back to earth and still won. That's where the poor play started. Hit a shot or two before the last :30 and it's a different season. UK had the shot at the same type win Vandy, LSU and UT now claim, but they blew it. Spin that however you'd like...

Did they play bad that game?
February 28, 200719 yr I didnt see the game against Bama, but they won by 9 or 10 I believe. Did they play bad that game? They didn't play at a championship level. It's been almost a month since they've shown that...
