Male (2-0) will host Saint Xavier (1-1) at 7:00 pm Friday.

Male is coming off a 21-19 win over Ballard. St. X is coming off a 39-10 win over Bowling Green.

Both teams' strengths are their defense. Both teams only returned 1 or 2 starters on offense from last year so there have been some struggles for both teams this season, Although St. X improved some in the Bowling Green game. St. X has played a tougher schedule to date with St. X also playing Owensboro in the opener. Male has played Butler in addition to Ballard. The winning formula for Male is to force St. X into some turnovers and capitalize on them. St. X's winning formula is to limit turnovers like they did in the Bowling Green game where they just had one fumble. Last year St. X knocked Male out of the playoffs winning 31-14. St. X has a two-game winning streak over Male so do they make it three or does Male break the streak?

Both teams are down this year with Male being the most down. Tigers win but Male's speed will make it respectable.

Male is not a great team this season, X isn't their usual strength either but X is marginally better.

Male was in 7-7 tie with Ballard at halftime and Ballard was up 19-14 with about 2 minutes left in 4th quarter when Male threw TD pass to go ahead 21-19.

He had a big game against BG and I'm sure Male will have to be on the lookout for him.

Ballard defensively is a good team. They can hold good teams to minimal points but their offense is abysmal.

The difference between Owensboro and Bowling Green was the speed and activity of the defensive fronts. Owensboro's got after it. Bowling Green just stood there. The ball is slow to come out on passes from X. If there is pressure bad things happen for X. If Male has speed and is active on the D line and at receiver they have a shot. If not, X rolls.

St. X needs to make Male beat St. X and not let St. X beat St. X. If they do that by limiting turnovers, defensive breakdowns, and special teams blunders, the Tigers should win.

This is bad for Male. St. X will probably just practice in morning before school. Guess Male could do light practice in gym which is better than nothing.

The first thing that comes to mind is special teams when JCPS cancels afternoon practices. Which X has done a good job of, especially on their punt block.
