I went to the NewCath scrimmage and IMO the Colonels looked like a work in progress. Not sure what the deal was with the bad snaps. Also, not sure if this was our first string kicker, but it’s going to be hard to beat good teams if we can’t do a better job on kickoffs and PATs.

It was bizarre. CovCath usually has an above average to very good kicker. Losing that Sophomore was a big blow. You gotta think the snaps will be taken care of over this week.

That made me laugh, Ru. It was good to see you. I believe this year will be a test of the character and perseverance of players and the skill of the coaching staff. The Raiders certainly did not look

Missed PATs can bite you in close contests. I think there will be quite a few of those close contests for the Colonels this year. We need all the points we can get.

The kicker from last year is only a sophomore this year? I didn't realize that. Big blow.

Zembrodt was a Sophomore last season. Junior now.

Scrimmages aren’t always indicative of how the season will go but, this feels like 35-7 Cov Cath with Ryle getting some points off some bad special teams based off those.

Things I’m interested to see:

  1. How much more Cov Cath throws the ball. New QB Dylan Courtney’s skill set fits what Coach Eviston wants to do like a glove.

  2. New defensive coaches - both the schemes and how hard the guys play. Front 6 should be very good.

  3. New kicker and long snapper as mentioned above. A great way to lose close games is with poor special teams.

I was just out getting some Num-nums and saw @StraightShooter looking at fruit. I stalked him for a bit and finally yelled out his username from a concealed position and watched him freeze and then stumble over his words.

We chatted about Ryle too, I will let him decide if he wants to reveal the substance of our very short convo.

I was just watching a video put out by Cincinnati Enquirer prep sports reporter Brendan Connelly about storylines to watch for in 2026 Greater Cincinnati football, and he mentioned that Princeton High School had several talented football players come in from area schools, and he mentioned Ryle among those schools. Anyone have any idea which player from Ryle is up at Princeton this year?

Shauncey Wynn - Jr

Wynn was Ryle's #3 receiver last year in terms of receptions (14), yardage (231), and receiving touchdowns (3). That also means that added to Dylan Lee, Gavin Lyons, and Jacob Savage - who all graduated - Ryle's offense lost their top 4 receivers, along with their top 3 rushers and their starting quarterback. Looks like Wynn was tied for 9th in tackles last year with 30. Definitely a bummer seeing him playing over across the river instead.

What happened to last year's kicker?

I don't believe Logan Zembrodt is playing football this year - which is a shame, because he was 4-4 on field goals and 59-59 on PAT's last year as a sophomore. We had Tucker Evans handling long-snapping duties on special teams for at least the last two seasons, and I believe he may have been doing it for the last three seasons, even. He graduated in May, so we're working on breaking in a new long-snapper. Growing pains. Things should progress through the season.

It's too bad he didn't want to play this year. Who is the new kicker?

Eli Robertson handled kicking duties for the freshman team last year. Cov Cath's roster hasn't been updated on Arbiter as of yet, so I'm not sure whether or not he's playing football again this year - entirely an assumption on my part, but I'd guess soccer is his primary sport, the same as it was for his older brother Tanner.

The roster is updated on Arbiter now and neither Logan Zembrodt nor Eli Robertson are on it, as suspected. Sophomore Roco Gillette is the only player listed as a kicker, so I'd assume he's the new man up.

No Jace Thornton on the roster this year either. That's another bummer...kid had some serious wheels on him. If he's hoping for a college ticket for his athletic ability, though, it'd almost assuredly be for track and not for football, so I can understand why he'd want to forego the potential injuries football risks and focus on his track career.

That made me laugh, Ru. It was good to see you. I believe this year will be a test of the character and perseverance of players and the skill of the coaching staff. The Raiders certainly did not look anywhere close to the squads over the last 5-6 years in the scrimmages. Will the players work harder than ever to improve each week and remain mentally tough when they take some lumps. I'm rooting for them. Go Raiders!

The coaching staff is loaded. Look at all the years Weinrich was with Dale Mueller at Highlands. Mike Woolf is a great coach too. Great coaching staff with great experience. Let's roll fellas! Roll Colonels!
